My pdoc is going to try stimulants on me. What's your opinion for using them for ADD and depression?
Thanks!

yes....stimulants....methyphenidate [ritilin] and ampheramine [adderall] they both treat both conditions....for depression, it like wakes you up...its more like you have more intrest and motivation to do things...makes boring tasks seem intresting or tolerable, repetive tasks...like office work, writing, anything with the motor skills. Depression it increases dopamine and improves intrest in overall life. But if its substance abuser its difficult to treat, because its misused recreactionally.....not so much to improve th quality of life.
For ADD yea... calms or slows down the thoughts and improves some behavior, dopamine is increased in the synapse but the firing is slowed down....it still depends...im not an expert....but theres ADD and ADHD....adhd is hyperactivty....and stimulants calm that down.
So....yea give it a try...maybe start with adderall....and if makes you too anxious go to Focalin....but the xr is better tolerated.

never, ever, ever take alcohol with provigil.
I tried this once, at a bar where a politician was launching his campaign. introduced myself to him, was discombobulated, words not syncing with my facial movements, talking very slowly, I hadn't even had much alcohol-- and your brain feels like a million elastic bands all trying to stretch in opposing directions all at once.
I don't get why you just don't try vyvanse.
There's youtube videos of people on provigil+alcohol if you don't believe me, or at least one that Current TV did. You will look very, very out of it.

> LaneyI take Vyvanse 40 mg. It helps some though I think it needs to be upped. However, what I do instead of increasing the dose is take Adderall (about twice a month) on the days I can barely move or if I have to go to a social engagement. It really helps.

In reply to Re: stimulant enthusasm- NEVER ALCOHOL w/ PROVIGIL » rjlockhart37, posted by novelagent on February 10, 2013, at 12:59:44
i've done worse combinations that where prescibed with dexedrine with xanax....dex 60mg and xanax 2mg in morning another 2mg at noon...and at times alcohol but i usally didnt drink until after the crash from dex....it just warped all the irrtibility and unpleasant feelings from dex rebound.
The reason for the vyvanse not being tried is my doctor is avoiding stimulants i've abused in the past...even vyvanse even though its a diffrent form of dexedrine....
the only thing that may be on down the road is focalin...but right now provigil/nuvigil is the current thing i have take. I'll have to work and talk with the dcotr about moving to methylphenidate....because it is a nonamphamine stimulant....i abuse amphetamines and i don't want to take a chance even though vyvanse seems like a good option.
I only have a beer when there is nothing to take, or relax or anything its difficult because i get in horrible agitated moods when i think about certain things...or just it natrually will come...and ill have a beer and maybe ill be a bit better....but yes, stimulant and alcohol....one time i took dex with a swig of tequila to wash it down....i gotta say that feeling was the worst feeling i have nearly had....you have a stimulation but the alcohol suppresses and somewhat makees you feel your on a psychidelic with no visual or auditory hallucinations...but i drank alot of tequila with it...so that explains it....xanax was better.
thanks for the post...always appricate people looking out for me...
