Tolstoy-is this the answer?

Posted by gadchik on January 22, 2013, at 9:58:29

"Ah, if only you might learn, through suffering, to believe that the only possible happiness-true, eternal, elavated-is achieved through these three things: work, self-denial, and love." Tolstoy

Love the quote, gadchik. I do hope he's wrong though: I want happiness, but I'm lacking in the work and love areas :/. I was always a Dostoyevsky fan, anyway...

I was trying to find that quote the other day. I have none of the three. I guess I love friends, etc. No work, some self-denial.

Scott Peck said without discipline it's hard to be happy.

I say, whatever. But I love(hey love) reading quotes.

Thanks for the picture! Does your sense of humor help get you through life? Here's another:

YES!! It always has. If you put me in a crowd of six uncomfortable people I have to hold back because I have a one liner for everything they say. I think to myself, don't you people see these gaping holes waiting for a laugh?
I might have given comedy a shot but being alone in a sh*tty motel in the middle of nowhere night after night performing for drunk hillbillies would have turned me into a drunk hillbilly. Doesn't sound all that bad really.

Freud said the three keys to a good life are to be, to work and to love. Don't recall what he meant by "to be." Maybe some kind of zen concept.

To be....definately zen. Maybe it means to be in the moment,no future or past?
