Hi all,
I'm currently on Nardil; it will be 5wks of treatment on tuesay, which is the day i see my pdoc. It is not working at all. So, in order to feel prepared for my pdoc appt, I'd like some expert info that can only be found here! I'd like to know, if you've failed on one MAOI, does that mean that none of them will work for you? Or is the opposite true?
In my heart, I just really want to go back to fighting with Ritalin...at least on it I can feel good for a couple of hours/day.Thanks in advance for any info,
Kat

Hi Kat,
I have read on the boards that some people have had success on one MAOI and not another, and vice versa.
I hope you feel better soon.

I'd try Parnate next, given that Ritalin, a stimulant works for you.
Start off at 10mg/day and increase to 40-80mg/day depending on response
A 5HT2A blockr (say Doxepin 50mg at bedtime) can help with sleep and anxiety as well

Yep, saw pdoc today and he said that since I am in MAOI land already, that we may as well try Parnate while I'm here. They have to order it at the pharmacy so I won't start it til tomorrow. But I stopped the Nardil yesterday. It's like it turned on me and where it once made me feel great, it was making me feel worse, with a lot of anxiety, which makes no sense at all. Or maybe the anxiety was from the Nortriptyline I was taking too. Anyways, neither drug was helping at all, so I stopped them.
We'll see how the Parnate goes. I'm a little worried that it's said to be activating and I'm prone to anxiety. But it is true that I do great with Ritalin, so we'll see.

Wow, I feel so bad for being incommunacado for several days there. I was going through a *very* bad time, and pretty much hid under my fuzzy green blanket in bed the whole time. I was isolating big time. I was SO anxious, and I just don't understand why Nardil did that to me. I'm sorry I didn't let you know what was going on, Phillipa...and sorry to the others who wrote to you, too. I'll definitely keep you updated about my experience with Parnate! I'm expecting High Anxiety, but my pdoc said it's worth a try since I don't have to do any washout, and i'm to call him if i get too anxious, and we'll stop it.
Hope you're doing well, Phillipa! And again, sorry for disappearing :(
