Dont despair, there are many things that can be done to treat your condition with a minimum of side effects, the drowsiness from the drugs should fade away after a couple of weeks. Tell your psychiatrist how you're feeling, how the drugs are effecting you etc.

It is difficult to know what is producing the daytime sedation. Zyprexa does not affect me that way, but it does others. Saphris has a half-life (amount of time for half the doaage to be eliminated by the body) of 24 hours, so I could see its sedative effects lasting into the next day after administration at night. If Saphris turns out to be the culprit, a low dose of Seroquel might act as an effective hypnotic (sleep inducer) as well as anxiolytic (anti-anxiety). The half-life of Seroquel is only 6 hours, so its sedative effects might not carry into the next day.
P.S. I have a difficult time reading text that is written in capital letters.

Were you really manic at time of diagnosis? I don't really know but is ambien commonly used for sleep with two antipsychotics? Phillipa

YES...it will.
zyprexa makes it hard for me to get up at 6 or 6:30 but not throughout the day. i havnt heard that either from others so i would guess Saphris would do this.
Ambien didnt do much for me after the first couple weeks when i was in (not sleeping) mode.
i wonder if xanax would help you at all instead of the ambien. do you have anxiety at night? if so see if pdoc could try that.Bad choices are just that. Bad choices. You can dwell on them or you can accept them and move forward.
again, YES, life will get better.

Yup.
This is not always easy to do, but it is well worth the effort. I have made tons of bad decisions; very few of which I currently hold on to. Each has been a learning experience. Some of these lessons I had preferred not to have learned at first, but were to be absolutely necessary for me to move forward. Now, my regrets are few. I have forgiven myself for making the bad decisions, but will continue to regret hurting some very special people along the way.

Yes I was manic at the time of Dx. Running my life to the ground. Fast talking/thinking acting/ not sleeping/ having affair/ ruining my perfect life! Ugh what a mess. At first I was just on Zyprexa 10mg but I was sooo aggitated at night I was standing up all night. They couldnt tell if it was mania or a side effect of the Zyprexa. They upped my Zyprexa to 15mg qHS and added the Saphris 10 mg and Ambien 10 mg to quiet me down. Boy it worked. But I still get nervous and real worried in the daytime so- I still don't know whats up. I cant take benzos cause of alcohol hx to treat to "anxiety". I wish I knew

>NOW SUPER SLEEPY AND FLAT
Well, you're on 20 mg of Zyprexa and 10 mg of Saphris, which is going to make you very sleepy and flat.
>AFTERNOON RESTLESNESS
May be Akithisia caused by the 2 antipsychotics you are on. Ask your doctor for some Propanalol or Cogentin or Artane.
>AND WORRY ALOT
Rumination is usually a symptom of depression or anxiety. Antidepressants are usually the best medication for these.
>WILL IT EVER GET BETTER??????
Yes, it will as long as you dedicate yourself to your treatment. You have a life long illness which requires maintenance.
What worries me is you're not on a mood stabilizer. Being on a mood stabilizer could help with your mood swings and help keep you from getting really high and really low.
Have you tried Lithium?

Well I went to the pdoc on Tuesday and he changed meds. Now I am on Saphris 10 mg HS , Lamactil 25mg for ( 2 weeks then 50 mg after that) and Propanalol 60 mg. I feel less tired and the depression seems to be getting better but today I was feeling a little manic. Felt irritated with my spouse and was checking out a look alike from my affair (ended it a month ago) at the restaurant . My spouse noticed and got mad, I explained that I couldnt help the way I felt. It didnt make my spouse feel any better at all. we talked about the emergency 5mg zyprexa for situations like this. I was worried it would make me feel too tired but I took 2.5mg anyway. It worked! The irritatd feeling went away and the day went better. But I thnk I really pissed off k. Worried that I wl go back to the manic life and ruin our family and kids. Iam scared that will happen too. Ugh how can I be bipolar!!?? I hate this. What if my life is changed forever?

You're ona low dose of LAmictal-you may still experience manic symptoms, which is why you have the Zyprexa, which is an antipsychotic and antimanic. You should really be taking your Zyprexa daily until you get up to 200-300 mg of your lamictal, even then you may still need the Zyprexa.
>What if my life is changed forever?
It sounds like you've been bipolar a long time. It can only get better now that you're treated.

I was thinking the same thing about the Lamactil dose but pdoc said go slow because of rash side effect. I have heard that Lamactil can make you feel manicy, true?? I think the zyprexa will help me along but 5 mg during the day is too much and I am too sleepy. 2.5 mg seemed to work yesterday so i will try it and see how it goes. Have you ever heard of using NAC supplement or B6 for bipolar ( NOT as a replacement but to use along with meds!)? I have been searching the web for answers to this life changing dx.

Yes, it can happen.
>I think the zyprexa will help me along but 5 mg during the day is too much and I am too sleepy.
This will wear off in a couple weeks.
>Have you ever heard of using NAC supplement or B6 for bipolar
I have heard of NAC, but not B6 for bipolar. NAC may be helpful.

I have a call in to the pdoc today to see if i can split up my dose of propranolol for the morning and night. Every night about 20 min after I take my Saphris 10 mg I get irritated and have to get up and walk around. They said it could be akathesia but thought it would go away after they decreased the Zyprexa from 20 mg per day down to the PRN dose of 5 mg.It still happens with just the Saphris. Every night it happens. I hope they can get the meds right so I can feel normal again. Oh about the B6- I read that it can be used to treat akathesia- last night I tried 200 mg (2pills) and it seemed to help- it kind of makes you sleepy. I kind of want to prevent the akathesia feeling not have to treat it after it starts. Ugh that feeling sucks
