I'm reading (here and other places) that 10 mg is the therapeutic dose for Lexapro, and that 20 mg doesn't do much else other than worsen side effects.
It's been my consistent AD for years, and I don't know anymore if I'm having side effects or just symptoms of depression. I'm extremely lethargic. Would it be beneficial to lower my dose from 20 to 10 mg? I'm also on lithium and just started Lamictal.
Any input is much appreciated!

I don't know having same issues here. Do I or don't I or do I raise the dose. What does your doc think? Other than being lethargic any other symptoms. Meaning are you stable? Phillipa

Hi Phillipa-
My pdoc wants me to stay at 20 mg. I'm stable, and don't think I'm having any side effects from Lex specifically, but I've been on it for so long, so it's hard to tell what's a side effect and what's just symptoms/other issues. Lethargy is the big one right now. I just don't know...
I've heard of several people going up to 40 mg, but I don't see any benefit in that.

I came down from 20mg to 10mg to because of sexual side effects an constipation. I still have constipation an its doing my head in. I live in fear of another torn *rs* fisher. I even drink virgin olive oil to help but it worries me, do you have this problem, other than that 10mg no different to me than 20mg

Lamictal + Lithium should help wwith depression. Stop the Lexapro and see how it feels off it.

Take 2-300mg of magnesium citrate the tabs from health food store. I have for years and end up kind of opposite but no constipation. Phillipa

I can get drinks from gp for constipation, they work great but like health store meds the rip my guts to bits with the op,s, i had. Im on gut lineing meds for protection, any MED that makes constipation into free flow has got to effect your gut. Even simple Andrews liver salts famed for constipation releaf doubles me up. The LEXAPRO effects my guts, and at only 10mg is sh*t for anxierty , good for depression. But if the sexual side effects an the constipation dont abait im aborting the med, for what i dont no.

Like I said before...Just see how you do on the Lithium and Lamictal. I don't think dropping the Lexapro is going to impact your mood. How much Lamictal are you on?

I like to rub virgin olive oil all over my naked body and then play Twister. Alone.

I just began Lamictal, so I'm only at 25 mg and titrating up. I thought that by lowering my Lexapro, it might help make me less tired.
I dunno!

I don't know if lowering your Lexapro from a small 10 mg amount is going to help your fatigue. What else are you on?
Its not going to be the Lithium or the Lamictal-doses are too small.

Fortunately, constipation, etc. isn't part of my problem. Again, Lexapro has been my tried and true for years re: day to day depression and anxiety symptoms.
I'm not ready to abandon it; I was more curious if it seems that 10 mg COULD be as therapeutic as 20 mg, and if that change would help lift some of the fatigue I'm feeling. I'm also lithium and Lamictal.

brynb, lexapro to me is more stimulating than sertraline i was on, i was always weary and acheing bones. But then again i dont take lithium, LEXAPRO is not hitting the spot yet for me , i am never more than %70 never will be, has most with clinical depression never are, but weary is not an issue
