Agomelatine and male libido.

Posted by Timebomb on May 31, 2012, at 16:13:31

Hi all,

I'm interested to hear experiences from guys on libido during Agomelatine use.

Have you felt a lowered libido during treatment? How about orgasm intensity? I'm feeling both are massively reduced two weeks into treatment. I though it wasn't supposed to do this?

It increased my desire. More than my ability.

Was orgasm as intense as prior to taking the drug?

It's very odd, I can hardly feel them anymore, whereas previously they were strong. I wonder if that will reverse or whether I'm stuck with this side effect...?

Yes. It sort of creeps up on you after a few months. Like all melatonergic drugs, it can effect libido, erection and even orgasm latency.

So much for no sexual dysfunction. I'm going to keep taking it though as I think it still beats SSRIs in that regard and no reason it would encourage weight gain.

Do we think sexual response would return to normal following cessation? I don't want to be permanently castrated (although libido has been better for two days.)
