NARDIL! am i in a manic phase?

Posted by fearnoevi1 on March 29, 2012, at 12:28:10

it was a couple weeks ago i bumped my nardil up to 75mg. i was fine until i woke up this morning and the teeth grinding has started again like happened initially at 60mg grinding teeth and clenching my jaw. and i woke up really early this morning WIRED, like TING woke up and my eyes were wide eyed heart beating fast and was like whoa time to start the day kinda thing. I did have a nap today but i think thats because i ran around like a mad man half the day getting stuff done and kinda crashed. But then after the nap here i am again WIDE eyed, wired as hell and energetic. anxiety slightly increased(i was at around a 80% reduction at 60mg) today with this wired hyper energetic feeling my anxiety is obviously a bit higher. Its my normal bed time and i dont foresee myself sleeping anytime soon, i am so wired lol. Is this what a manic phase is? did the dosage increase throw me into a manic phase maybe? i dont think i actually like this "manic" feeling to be honest, i even took some seroquel even tho i HATE seroquel, but i just wanna calm down and sleep, and so far it has had zero effect on me. So did this dosage increase throw me back into a manic phase possibly and i have to wait it out or should i go back to 60mg pleaseeeeee help!

Hi.

I'm sorry no one replied to your initial post in a more timely fashion.

Is there any history of bipolar in you or your family?

If so, then you may indeed be experiencing a manic reaction.

Some people with unipolar depression experience a mild euphoria at the beginning of Nardil treatment that eventually dissipates. However, I don't know if this is what is happening to you. You might be experiencing some temporary autonomic instability (fight-or-flight stuff) along with the insomnia that is so common with Nardil. It is difficult to say if you are having a true manic reaction. Taking the Seroquel was a good idea. I guess you are going to have to take it day by day to watch where this thing goes and remain in contact with your doctor. To me, you sound activated, but not manic. However, I can't know for sure.

How long were you at 60 mg? How did it affect your depression? Did it help at all? 60 mg is at the low end of therapeutic dosage range, but often is sufficient. 75 mg is in the middle, and is usually high enough. Ideally, it would be desirable to establish a 75 mg dosage if you were on 60 mg for at least 3 weeks.

Do you trust your doctor?

If you decide to post here again, I would really like to know how you are doing. I know that I didn't help you too much in reaching a decision. There are just too many variables to take into consideration. Again, it might be best to take things day by day while remaining at 75 mg.

Good luck.

Thank you my friend and you did actually help me a lot just by bouncing ideas off me, I appreciate it. I think you may be right, the increase was just activating and not necessarily a manic phase. As much as I'm what could be called a moody person(ups and downs) I don't really fit the description of bipolar I don't think anyway. I've never had a manic phase where I feel euphoria and such, I think I'm just like most depressed/anxious people and experience good and bad days. When I went to 60mg I experienced a similar result just not as bad, felt stimulated teeth grinding ect just not this help. And I think that passes within a couple weeks to a month then the results were tremendous, so maybe (and I really hope) this is the same case. I mean I can't see a higher dose producing worse results right? Aside from side effects. At 60mg my anxiety was pretty much gone so I can't see it Comeing back at 75. In any event thanks for your time, understanding and response. I appreciate it and you did help me out
