I received a letter today from GSK Bridges to Access informing me that as of February 21, 2012 they will no longer be offering Parnate through their patient assistance program. A quick check at drugstore.com shows Parnate to cost about $285 per month.
Since I'm single, I don't qualify for any type of state medical assistance. I don't have insurance. I was recently diagnosed with diabetes, so a significant portion of my money now goes to buying insulin, medications, and testing supplies. Oh, and my car was broken into today and I think my girlfriend is about ready to break up with me.
Any suggestions?

maybe a foreign online pharmacy has it? I thought one did, for a while--United Pharmacies or something. Probably not **cheap**, since most people on Parnate take so many pills daily, but I would guess cheaper than drugstore.com prices.

I don't take it but does this mean the drug companies could discontinue Maoi's? That would be disastrous for some? Phillipa

I very much doubt they will discontinue nardil or parnate - I think it just means they wont be dishing it out free to financialy embarrased patients.
All I can suggest is that you try other antidepressants that are avaliable as cheap generic scripts, say sertraline plus nortriptyline?
Would it be worth your while to take out some private insurance if you need to spend so much each month on meds? It might be worth looking around at what plans are avalaible.

From what I read Covis Pharma to Acquire U.S. Rights from GlaxoSmithKline for Fortaz®, Zinacef®, Lanoxin®, Parnate®, and Zantac® Injection. So, they are selling the rights to Parnate and several over drugs to Covis Pharma.

My pharmacy called me this morning to tell me that Parnate cost has risen from approx $200 to $500/month (the portion I pay). I cannot pay it, but afraid of the generic - it took so long to find something that works and I have been on Parnate for 20 years! Has anyone used the generic and, if so, does it work the same or as well?? With no assistance (which I never used, but was going to contact until I read that they have discontinued their Bridges program) and now being required to pay almost $500/month WITH insurance, just cannot afford it - but can I afford not to?

I can't tell you how much my tranylcypromine costs because it was covererd by my prescription plan. My co-pay was $8.75. I should get a print-out from my plan soon that will tell me how much it costs before coverage.
By the way, how have you been? Is your absence from Psycho-Babble a good sign or a bad sign?

I'm not bad thanks :) I tend to come and go but it often depends more on how busy I am rather than whether or not I'm unwell.
I see you are thinking of trying Latuda. I have no idea how it compares with Abilify in terms of weight gain in the long run. Do you think it might improve your depression?

They still list it on their page but they say to contact them for availability, and when you contact them they state that it is no longer available from their supplier.

It is probably too late for this to be of any help to the original poster, but I am going to put this out there just in case it might be of assistance to anyone else: Parnate *is* covered under a patient assistance program, but through its new US manufacturer, Covis, no longer (as mentioned above) GlaxoSmithKline. I only found out about the PAP by writing Covis (there was no information on its website), but my email to this address ([email protected]) was replied to with an application.
