Ugh, I think I have edema or something. I went from 120.0 pounds to 125.6 pounds like within a day. My stomach is all bloated and my ankles seem fatter than usual.
Can fasting for two days and then eating cause this?
What can I do to make this go away? I bought some diuertic tea but it's not working.
OK, just to make sure this is meds related. Can stopping Risperdal cause this too?
I hate this edema so much! It's like I got fat immediately!

Could you try a med containing the diuretic Pamabrom (Diurex) - avaliable without prescription at your pharmacy

Messing around with your body again, I see.
Why do you keep doing the same things over and over again? Is that part of a psychiatric condition?

If you are reluctant to post a reply on PB, perhaps you should ask your doctor about it.

I don't know. I've had problems with eating in the past. I used to throw up after eating. I don't know if it was bulimia. Prozac seemed to solve that problem.

Deneb I don't know what you have done. Did you cut out carbs and then add them back in? That causes immediate weight gain at least it did for me when on Atkins years ago. Scott is right you are hurting your body badly. Call your doc and stop please. Phillipa

Agreed, if you do this sort of stuff with any regularity, you need the help of a psychiatrist

Yeah, I don't think this fasting thing is working. It's actually doing the opposite of what I want. I read that fasting is cleansing. It cleans out toxins in the body. I saw that people go like 2 weeks fasting so I didn't think 2 days would do anything.
Have you ever read something called intermittent fasting? It's supposed to give you all the life extending properties without actually reducing your calories or something. I was hoping to adopt a lifestyle of intermittent fasting. Rats on intermittent fasting live a lot longer than rats eating everyday.
I guess I need to read more because obviously my fast did not work. I must be doing something wrong.

Deneb you also are not a rat. Can't base a human on a rat in my opinion. Phillipa

Sorry, but thats a pile of horse s*it, the body clears out toxins 24/7, its what the liver and kidney do...... fasting doesnt clear out toxins, it just makes your body weak and makes it lose lean muscle tissue.
Far better to eat a healthy diet (plenty of fruits and veggies, whole grains, lean meat and fish, and not too much junk) rather than go on fasts every now and then.
if you want to do somthing positive for your health, but a bottle of Centrum and take one every day with your dinner.

> Can fasting for two days and then eating cause this?
Yes, but it's not edema. It's a matter of biased observation, IMHO.
I suspect that your bowels had less in them, and you allowed yourself to dehydrate. You temporarily lost weight, that upon eating and fluid intake, you regained.
You're a chemist. When you fast, your body switches over to beta-oxidation of fatty acids as its primary source of energy. For each two carbon unit (acetyl co-A) cleaved off a fatty acid, one molecule of water is consumed. Your fluid intake must increase when you are fasting, or you will dehydrate. Every cell burning fat will be at a negative water balance. And each one will plump up again when you have enough fluids available.
> What can I do to make this go away? I bought some diuertic tea but it's not working.
You don't. You're paying too much attention to a transient event. Taking diuretic tea will only dehydrate you once more, unless you're already dehydrated, in which case it won't work (if by "working" you mean you didn't see your body mass drop following intake).
> OK, just to make sure this is meds related. Can stopping Risperdal cause this too?
I doubt it.
> I hate this edema so much! It's like I got fat immediately!
You don't have edema. You are paying too much attention to your body image.
If you want to find out if fasting works for you, go ahead and fast for two days every week, for a month. Weigh yourself after a satisfying meal before you begin your first fast. And weigh yourself again after a satisfying meal, upon two days of normal eating at the end of the month. You'll be comparing apples to apples. If you can't wait a month to weigh yourself again, I think it would indicate an unhealthy obsession about your weight.
You should also know that episodic fasting causes your adipocytes (fat storage tissue) to more readily store fat. It's an adaptive response to the unavailablilty of food. You need to be able to control your food intake during your eating periods, so as to not overeat in compensation of the increased hunger mediated by adipocyte hormone release.

Carbohydrate depletion followed by carbohydrate loading can "puff" someone up to some degree. Bodybuilders sometimes use this trick in order to look more massive. Marathon runners do this, too, so as to increase their energy reserves. I don't know if this is what happened to Deneb, but I doubt edema was to blame for any perceived increase in size.

OK, that does make sense. I wasn't drinking very much because not eating made me not thirsty. Ok so I didn't lose as much weight as I thought. That's ok. I know for sure that I did lose fat these couple of months.

Deneb there are healthy fasts where you drink natural fruit and vegtable juices and don't become dehydrated. Lots and lots of water also. Phillipa
