Looking back on my biggest breakdown,I just recalled that everytime I went to the er,dr,mental health clinics, they wrote me an rx for paxil-which i inevitably threw in the trash.I thought I had heart issues and refused to believe it was anxiety, which quickly morphed into depression w/me refusing all meds, except the ativan injections they gave me in the er. Anyway, I never mentioned paxil, but it was the one they all suggested. What is it specifically about paxil that makes it so good for anxiety?

That was the first on also given to me for anxiety but at l0mg with lopressor 25mg to lessen anxiety too and then the xanax. It didn't relieve anxiety the benzos did that I just adjusted to the paxil I guess so could take it. Phillipa

Well, I think I tolerated the zoloft I took because of the klonopin and remeron.I really dont know if it helped.I had thought it helped more w/mental stuff, and k helped w/physical stuff, but now the k seems to do both.I think I need a higher dose tho,why is it so hard for me to take enough?I start seeing my self looking like a zombie and drooling in a pych ward!!

Paxil did absolute wonders for my generalized anxiety disorder and depression. It dramatically reduced my anxiety in less than a week. The relief was enormous. It took a few weeks to kill the depression and restore me to a normal range of emotions and functioning. It ultimately pooped out for the depression, but I know people for whom it has worked really well long term.
Is there any reason you are still reluctant to try it given that more than one medical professional has recommended it for you? Are you concerned about side effects? I had virtually none except sedation about 4 hours after taking it (timed it for when I wanted to go to bed).
Good luck!

Actually, I am willing to try it.At this point,I might as well,I just was trying to think of something instead of k,and I remembered that so many professionals mentioned it.did it do anything positive for your sleep? I really have no complaints on k,its just that its a controlled substance, and I worry about having to get an rx from drs that dont like benzos, etc.

SSRI's (not just paxil) are suggested first for anxiety because they work and are non addictive.
Best way to start is take half a dose for the first week, then a full dose
(half a dose would be 10mg per day of Paxil, 25mg of Zoloft)
If SSRI's dpnt work, I think that Remeron is a logical next step

I've never had heartburn on an SSRI. I did feel queasy for the first week or so on Paxil. Apparently the drug messes with the center of the brain that registers nausea. But it wasn't severe and went away pretty quickly. I don't know if heartburn is a common problem with the SSRIs or if you're likely to have it with another SSRI.
I did sleep well on Paxil.
Good luck if you give it a whirl.

No stomach upset on paxil. I'm thinking that at the time I took it am doses were what was prescribed and that bedtime would have been so much better. Phillipa

Nausea can be a common start up effect of the SSRI's, not so sure about heart burn.
Try taking some Prilosec OTC each day for a few weeks, let your heartburn settle down and let your body get used to the drug.

When I started lexapro, years ago, I had diarrhea and nausea. I could barely eat anything for a few weeks, until my stomach settled down. I lost about 10 pounds. Was very happy about that.
