I was wondering if anyone here now has taken or takes an atypical Wellbutrin dose, and whether you found that making smaller dosage changes helped you. I've always gone from 300 to 450, back to 300, etc. I'm interested in trying 350, thinking maybe I just need a little bit more than 300, but not 50% more. This would require switching to the SR version and taking 2 different strength pills, which which seems quite doable but yet strangely rare.
Anyone have an experience in this realm?

You cant break up the XL tablets, I think.. not even sure about the SR ones. If you want to take wellbutrin in an odd dose you may be stuck with the IR flavor.

In my scheme you don't have to break any tablets (nor do I advocate doing so to anyone).
The SR form is made in 100, 150, and 200 mg tablets. So, you can do 100, 150, 200, 250 (100+150), 300, 350 (200+150), and 400. This, I think, represents a great advantage compared to the XL version, which only has three available doses, 150, 300, and 450, compared to 7 for the SR. And that is with staying under the PI sheet ceilings. I'm curious whether there are people here who have tried either 250 or 350, in particular, and whether it's a problem to get a doctor to prescribe that and a pharmacy to fill it. You would have to have to bottles for the same drug, I imagine.

YES i do. I have been on as much as 1000mg of Bupropion SR, and 900mg of wellbutrin XL. *However* i increased slowly and I was ON A MOOD STABILIZER ANTIEPILEPTIC becuase those high doses are associated with higher seizure risk. However, the original bupropion studies and inpatient usage was over 1000....only reason why people say max is 450mg right now is seizure risk.
It's worth a shot. I ended up going back down to 600mg where I'm at right now. I've been on better meds, but I've def. been on worse. I am still strugglign with anhedonia and apathy and amotivation but I am not suicidal and I am getting around and not in bed and in pain all day. So taht's something for ya.
And i'm BP2, bupropion supposedly has less risk for manic switch than SNRIs or SSRIs.

1000mg of bupropion? Wow, that is impressive!

That's interesting. If you check out Preskorn's excellent article on bupropion (http://www.preskorn.com/columns/0001.html), the original dosage range was 600-900, and they literally recalled the trucks as they were on their way to pharmacies when they discovered the increased seizure risk. I used to take Wellbutrin in combination with an anticonvulsant, but the combo appears to give me migraines (both trileptal and lamictal gave me migraines, but I think Wellbutrin was complicit). Even at those higher doses, the seizure risk is still pretty low, it's just that when you are selling a drug to millions of people even a low incidence shows up in a major way. I think at 300 mg it's 1 in 1000, at 450 it jumps to 4 in 1000...not sure what it is in the 600-900 range, but one imagines it is still pretty low.

Wellbutrin is the only AD that works for me, though it doesn't work like it used to, maybe 50% now. At 450 mg I have markedly increased irritability and insomnia, so I have gone back to 300, which never seems like enough. Hence my interest in 350.

For me, treatment of my depression has always been a battle between something to give me energy and drive, and trying to alleviate the irritability and anger which inevitably results. Anything that cuts down the latter causes depression.
