Hi
Well here I am, on 10mg of Zyprexa per night and about 15lbs heavier now than when I started it. My doctor has put me on metformin, but only the lowest dose - 500mgs per day. I've only been on it just over a week, but so far I haven't lost a pound.
Does anyone know what the effective dose of metformin is for weight loss? Is 500mg too low??
Thanks

I took it for a while and didn't lose any weight. I finally had to stop taking it because it caused terrible stomach problems.

Really? It's also used in Diabetes. My neice doesn't have it but was put on it as a precautionary measure since she had gestational diabetes. Sorry no idea what the dose but she did say she got no side effects? Phillipa

When I took it I didn't lose weight, but I also didn't gain any. I was taking 2000mg a day of the ER version. At the time I was not very active. I was also taking 10-15mg zyprexa at the time.
I don't take the metformin any more, because the diabeteis went away. At first I gained a lot of weight but now I have a job that keeps me on my feet and I've lost a lot of the weight.
