This is really starting to concern me. I have the motivation and interest in getting some exercise, but my muscles feel like jelly. Also, any exertion causes my mouth to dry up so badly it hurts to swallow.
Is there anything I can do to counter this?
I'm taking 175 mg.

They do sell saliva replacments. Do you feel the muscle weakness is from not doing anything in a while? Don't know what you mean by excercise either. Could be anything from walking to running. So you feel good but just weak? And you're thinking chlomipramine? Phillipa

Justherself, I don't have experience with clompiramine. When you say like jelly, you are saying weakness that is different from fatigue? Hopefully someone familiar with your med will post.
How long has this been going on? Do you have a doctor to discuss this with?
I hope depression is still in remittance.

Thanks for responding.
It's different than fatigue. When I go to do something, even walking up the stairs, the large muscles in my body feel weak and leaden. It's making it difficult to get anything accomplished.
I'm thinking of dropping down 25 mg. to see if a reduction might lessen this side effect. I'm going to put a call in to my pdoc tomorrow. I'm not sure if there is anything we can do, but I sure hope so.
I think there are a couple of other posters who are on clomipramine. I wonder if they are experiencing the same thing.

I hope you get experienceed answers.
Have you Google searched muscle weakness +clomiprine? And it does not include hypotension?
May I ask if it is still working for pain and depression?
Hang in there. It'll get figured out soon (hopefully). And if no one posts soon--be a pest :) and post another thread.

Hi FB..I have some hypotension but it's bearable. I have to remember not to stand up too quickly. My depression is not fully resolved, but it may be this is as good as it gets. I'm not sure I could handle worsening of the side effects. The weight gain has been pretty bad :( . My memory is awful too..but I just make more lists.
My coccyx pain has not returned, and I'm grateful for that.
I'm pretty sure the clomi is the culprit. I hope we can do some tweaking to get the most out of it, as it's helped me so much.

The muscle weakness does not sound like an acceptable side effect. Maybe you can tweak the meds. When do you see your doc?
Curious. Is it weightbearing? Meaning, would you have strength in water or resistance with legs up?
I notice my pain is activated by standing up (a different issue than yours). It seems the pressure placed on my hip joints creates a sensation that travels my legs and into my back.
Please keep me (us) posted what happens, what you find out. Best to you JHS.

Justherself, i'm on 75 mg of clomipramine and I know exactly the feeling that you're describing. It seems that clomipramine lowers the muscle tone dramatically. Here, on PB were some that disagreed, but it's hard to tell if you do not train regularly. For me, the weakness begun when i raised the dosage from 50 to 75 mg.I train almost every day and that weakness was so disturbing that i had to choose of stopping clomipramine or quickly find a remedy.Fortunately I found that adding 25-50 mg of Maprotiline (NRI)solved the jelly state in a matter of days. So, I think it's because clomipramine boosts serotonin way much than norepinephrine at least in some individuals, although some say that the metabolite of clomipramine - desmethylclomipramine are way much stronger NRI than the mother drug.
Before discovering Maprotiline i tried Remeron, low dose prozac, wellbutrin. They didn't helped too much.
This is the end of the thread.
