Splitting Headache - Ill

Posted by Simcha on October 31, 2010, at 21:08:20

Hi folks,

Sorry I disappeared. Lamictal turned out to be a good choice for me. I'm on 100mg at night with 450mg of BuproprionXL at night.

But......

I'm in the middle of tapering off of Cymbalta and I have a terrible headache as I type this. Also I'm queasy. I feel sick even though I know I don't have the flu.

I was on 60mg Cymbalta every morning. For two weeks up though Thursday, I took 40mg. I didn't feel good, but the headaches were manageable.

Since Thursday morning I've taken 20mg in the am. Tonight, I'm in horrible pain. Ugh, if I'm like this tomorrow morning, there is no way I could go to work.

Any suggestions besides Tylenol or Aspirin? I've tried both.

Ugh, this is worse than when I tapered off of Effexor!

Benzos don't help either? With benzos no withdrawal from cymbalta after three months? Phillipa

Phillipa, I'm already on .5mg Clonazepam per night. Maybe I should take more when experiencing terrible withdrawal symptoms from tapering down on the Cymbalta. Also, I think I'll take an Ambien tonight. My sleep has been crap with this withdrawal. Thanks Phillipa. :-)

I think you need to taper more gradually. Perhaps you should increase to 30mg for now.

My pdoc told me to take 40mg one morning and 20mg the next for the next two weeks. Then I may be able to go down to 20mg every day for 2 weeks.

Hi Simcha,
Are you sure your headache is from the cymbalta? Did it definitely start as you tapered, not as you started anything else? The reason I ask is I started wellbutrin, and I have had the most intense headaches and I cannot take it anymore. My doctor wants me to try lamictal next. I just came off of pristiq, but the headaches didn't start for me until I began the wellbutrin. Nothing seems to touch these headaches either, nothing for migraines, I'm sitting in a dark room at the moment in some intense pain. Can't take it! Hope you find some relief soon. I'm desperate to!

Alternating doses is not appropriate with short-acting drugs. It would be better to reduce from 40mg per day to 30mg per day.

Well Ed... I'd agree with you but the doc was firm.

Cyndie, I'm sure that the headaches commenced with a decrease in dosage.

Ed, I took 40 mg this morning and I'm a bit better.

Cymbalta comes in 30 mg pills. Maybe you should stay on that dosage for a while.

Quite right, that's what I thought.

....but only you know how you're feeling, perhaps you should be firm too? Docs often seem to underestimate the risk of withdrawal reactions with Cymbalta.
