Selegilne and paxil?

Posted by Laney on October 27, 2010, at 11:59:26

I think that's how you spell it?

Can you combine it with an SSRI even at low doses?
Can you point me to some resources to check out combining paxil with other meds.

I've combined it with Nortriptyline but it's ok as long as you do it under a doctor's care and get blood tests to see what the level of Nort. is.
Thanks!

Spelling not sure but know what you mean. I don't think they can be combined. But is there another like cymbalta you could combine? And once I wanted to try EMSAM and my doc gave me a trial package and said a tiny piece of the patch would be enough for me. Have you thought about that on it's own? And thinking l0 of paxil admit finally worked with benzos for me. Then while working the med the doc switched me to luvox still there. But at one time 2.5mg of paxil and 7.5mg of luvox combined and benzo was pretty good. Love Phillipa

Phillipa,

The reason for the combining is that I've never been able to get off of paxil. I would rather not wreck havoc on my system and just combine the lowest dose possible with something else.

Thanks!

I wouldn't mess with Selegiline, not yet at least. Give the Notriptyline some time, hopefully things will continue to improve and side effects will subside.

How did you respond to Zoloft?

Why not selegiline????

Any other opinions on selegiline?
Thanks!

What all are you taking right now and at what doses?

If you have only been using Nortriptyline for 3 to 6 weeks, I would still give it time and some dosage tweaking before I thought about adding something like selegiline. Selegiline is an irreversible MAOI that selectively inhinibits MAO B at low doses, and inhibits both MAO A and B at higher doses(maybe 10 mg or more). It may be perfectly safe to take a very low dose of selegiline with the drugs you are on now, but there are no guarantees.

Personally, I would instead add L Methylfolate, Fish oil, and a good exercise regimen before thinking about selegiline.
