Hi!
Just wondering how long it took for your amitryptyline to kick in. And at what dose. Was it a real 'light switch' moment, or was it very gradual?
I take an MAOI together with clonazepam, and have just switched from trimipramine 100mg to amitryptyline 100mg. They work totally differently and i already feel the trimipramine's effects have mostly gone. Been on amitryptyline almost a week now, just increased from 50 to 75mg. Will hit 100mg in a couple of days. At the mo im pretty depressed and eager for the amitryptyline to kick in. Also, something tells me I'm gonna need more than 100mg for a robust effect.
All comments wellcome!med

Yeah, it was like the lights going out ;)
I can't tolerate amitriptyline at all.....at any dose.I really hope you get some benefit from it. Amitriptyline is said to be one of the most powerful antidepressants.
I'm sure someone will now post something more helpful.

My theory is that because I've just switched from trimipramine which has its own similar anticholinergic effects, my brain is so used the the onslaught of it that now I've switch to amitrypyline I'm not getting these effects as I already went through them with trimipramine.
Make sense? Its a little tricky to word lol

They do say that some people become tolerant to anticholinergic side effects, so it makes sense.

>Yup, the anticholinergic effects of amitryptyline do seem less than those of trimipramine, at least dose for dose.
This is the end of the thread.
