If you find a med to longer be as effective as when you first started with it, to you up the dose to the max of do you move onto something else?
I used to be on 5mg Lexapro, 200mg Lamictal, and 1mg Klonopin. I've also used Geodon for an acute mixed episode.
Anyway, I went off Lexapro last February and went off Klonopin in August. Then had a major relapse of depression, spent 10 days in hospital...
Now I'm back on the same meds as before, but it's 15mg Lexapro, 300mg Lamictal, and 1.5mg Klonopin. New pdoc mentioned the possibility of Pristiq or Cymbalta but we decided to go with what has worked in the past.
So far this combo is working well but I'm concerned about side effects at these doses. I hate the tinnitus I get from the Lexapro, and it also makes me wake up in the middle of the night, and the Desyrel I have doesn't really help. I also feel some cognitive issues but I don't know if it's from the Lamictal or the Klonopin.

I didn't know lexapro caused tinnitis. I also would be concerned about that. Sorry you had to enter the hospital. What's your doc say about the tinnitis will it go away? Phillipa

It's listed as a side effect in the PI. When I was on 5mg, I had some tinnitus. The doctor I had at the time didn't think it was related. I was worried I had some hearing loss, as I work full time in the performing arts and am occasionally exposed to high decibel levels. Well, I had my hearing tested and it was fine, in fact audiologist said it was "off the charts" compared to normal level. I was so happy my hearing is excellent!
Anyway, when I went off the Lexapro the tinnitus went away. Now I'm back on it, and tinnitus is back so I'm convinced it is from the Lex. I'm willing to put up with it for now, the 15mg is really helping me get out of this depression, but I'm hoping to go down to 10mg in a few weeks. Maybe that will help?
