I have managed to get my Zopiclone dose up to 5 7.5mg pills per night. I absolutely need to take it if I want to get to sleep. It is the strangest feeling having sleep absolutely regulated by a drug. To an extent my waking state is also affected, although I can't actually say how, sort of like a fog. Can Zopiclone, which is closely related to benzo's, cause severe depression?
Any comments or advice will be much appreciated!

All sorts of weird effects from those hypnotics. I think thats why most docs use them as a last resort. Im assuming youve been through all the usual trials like trazodone, benzos, antihistamines and antihistamine / AAP or AD like seroquel or remeron.
It may be theres underlying anxiety or adrenal activation that could help if treated.

Is that lunesta? I took that one and just stopped it. I didn't seem to need it anymore. No withdrawal no nothing. Why not take valium in a low dose? 5 sounds like you would then kind of withdraw during the day if we are talking the same med. Phillipa

Zaleplon ie Sonata had mood brightening effects for me but Ambien did not.
Sonata is very short acting and no withdrawal or side effects like amnesia or feeling hung over.
According to the drug monograph, it only has preferential binding to the omega 1 receptor of GABA a subset receptors.Maybe someone can find this info at the FDA drugs section of that site.
I tried All sleep meds. Sorry but right now I am unable to focus enough to look it up myself for you.

dude, you're on too much zopiclone period. If it makes any difference to your desire to get off, I think the stuff is carcinogenic.

That is IMO too much sonata. I like to use 5-10mg. At those levels, I feel fine in the morning, and as Florence mentioned, a little mood brightening, possibly just due to skipping the anxiety of insomnia :)
However, I have taken as much as 20-25 on one particularly rough night when I would wake every few hours. I'd wake, take another.
My hangover the following day was profound, even factoring of broken sleep and anxiety. Definitely a depressant at that level.
Can you rotate sleep aides. Lunesta, ambien?
