How easy is it to get addicted to benzos?

If I took them once a week for a while would I get addicted?

Just once a week? No. Regualar use is needed to produce physical dependence. Intermittent use (once or twice a week) should not be a problem unless the dose is exceptionally high.

It really depends. Some people simply don't get addicted to benzos. This doesn't mean they don't need to taper coming off high doses, it just means that they can come off them when they want without major problems.

I've taken benzos for more than a week without getting "addicted". I did need to reduce the dose slowly when coming off though.

For me, SSRIs were more addictive.

No, your body would not get addicted. How you only want to them once a week?

I am coming of zyprexa and am one of the unfortunate ones to get a really bad withdrawal.

I am down to about 1mg of zyprexa.
I am doing tiny drops, one a week of about 2mg of the tablet (not zyprexa)so a tiny amount but still get a couple of bad days of withdrawal.

I am looking for something to help me through those couple of days.

How long did it take you to get of SSRIs Link?
I have heard of people taking up to 3 years to really get off them.

Around a year. However, I still don't feel like I am really off them.

I think true addiction to benzos is rare. This is one of the most helpful and useful medications available-not to mention SAFE. If you have a true anxiety disorder and no clear history of addiction, benzos can be the only way to live a normal life. I know many of you will SLAM me for saying this, but it is true.

I completely agree with you. For me, the SSRI's don't come anywhere near the anxiolytic capability of a benzodiazapine. Often the SSRIs just make my anxiety worse.

But how long or how much use until you get dependance on them? As in a you would get serious withdrawals if you tried to stop?

I dont want to get out of the Zyprexa frying pan and into the Benzo fire.

Personally, I find that SSRIs produce much milder dependence than benzodiazepines and related drugs. This is just my experience.

I agree with Linkdage. I've been on benzo's since the 70's. I can taper down and stop for a week if no stressful event happens. However trying to sleep is difficult. Habit forming, YES. Addictive, MILDLY (at therapeutic doses). I think Caffeine is more addictive than benzo's.
