I know the difference between the two. I was just wondering what people prefer and why. I was prescribe Adderall XR but it is not covered under my Provincial insurance so I need to find something else. Do people use both, or just one?

Some people take both, the spansules and the tablets through out the day to keep them attention sharp. Honestly ...
Dexedrine Spansules are cheaper than adderall...they have dextroamphetamine spansules which are usally like 15 dollers for a co-pay.
The spansules release a bit slower than the talblets but still the delivery is fast.

Spanuels are slow release. Vyvanse is another dexedrine release product. Although I thought Adderal XR just went generic?

Well Vyvanse is still under patent so that doesn't help her much. I would think Adderall IR wouldn't be to expensive. Vyvanse seems to keep people from sleeping because it is released so slowly that it still is going into the evening.

Hey Maxime, have you tried ritalin? I just wanted to know which works better for you. That is if you've tried both.

Weatherfreak, do you have a preference? How are the ritalin side-effects?
Maxie, I babbled you....

I crash very hard on Ritalin. So I really don't want to try it again.

Standard methylphenidate (Ritalin) is very short-acting, how to you respond to Concerta?

I took 30 mg a day of Adderall XR two weeks ago (i had to get my mum to pay). It helped a lot and I didn't crash. My pdoc is filling out the necessary paper work so that I get it through my Provincial insurance. But I thought in the meantime I would use Dexedrine. I can barely get out of bed in the morning and the Adderall helped with that. I am spending so much time in bed lately in a lot of physical pain. I can't get motivated to get up. The Adderall didn't help with the pain of course, but it did help me get out of bed.

Hi Ed, I have never tried Concerta. Maybe I should ask to try it. Although once again, I have no idea what dosage I would need and my doctor isn't used to prescribing it. Sigh.

Some research (yeah, I have no sources, just gleaned repeatedly) that stimulant therapy could (*could*) help with pain.

So from the answers I have received, it looks like there is no "perfect" dose of Dexedrine Spansules. Will I just have to figure it out on my own. It does seem that people take it twice a day, is that correct?

Well, it's listed as available on the Health Canada website, so it should be available in Canada. Why not try it.

Thanks Ed, when I checked the drug database for Concerta nothing came up. I must look again. I see my pdoc on Monday.

I looked in the Database of available meds. And there was Concerta. I don't know how I could have missed it before.
I am glad you checked. :)

> I am glad you checked. :)Yep, you have quite a few brands of methylphenidate in Canada.
You have a product which sounds similar to Concerta called Novo-methylphenidate ER.
You have Biphentin capsules (the newest brand of once daily sustained-release methylphenidate).
You also have Ritalin-SR tablets (sustained release).
And obviously you have normal Ritalin and generic versions.
This is the end of the thread.
