Rash - Lamictal

Posted by simcha on August 24, 2010, at 15:33:16

Well folks, it looks like I've got a rash. I just started on 25mg last Thursday. I'm going to the doctor now. I'll let you all know what's up later.

Oh no! How do you feel? Please let us know as soon as you can. Funny, my pdoc just wanted to put me on lamictal and so I just saw pics of those rashes last night. They looked painful, I hope you are better very soon.
Good luck!!

Thanks guys. I had hives all over my arms, chest, stomach and back. And stupid me started taking Caltrate (calcium + vitamin D supplements) at around the dame time as I started the Lamictal. So now the pdoc isn't sure if the Lamictal caused the hives or the Caltrate. I have to stop both for a couple of days. Then he asked that I start the Caltrate again to see if I get hives again. If I get hives I will stop taking the Caltrate and start the Lamictal again. If I don't get hives, then we have to try something else.

If I don't get hives and it was the Lamictal, I think I'm going to suggest that he take me off of the Cymbalta and put me on Remeron. If I'm on Remeron I'd take it at night and it would knock me out such that I may not need the Trazodone. So potentially it could reduce the number of medications I have to take. Then I will have to watch what I eat... Ugh!

Well, live and learn. Something tells me that it was the Lamictal and not the Caltrate that started the hives. But I guess we'll have to see.

Thanks for the concern you guys. I'm doing OK tonight. It's just hot here. We were at 98 degrees and shattered record highs today in Oakland, CA. We don't have air conditioning here (in most places) because usually we are in the sixties and seventies most of the year. So 98 is painful for us. It's 9:30pm here now and in my apartment it's still 86 degrees. It's cooled off to 83 degrees outside. That's way too warm for us at this time of night where we start slipping into the low sixties and high fifties. At least there's only 10% humidity.

I feel like I shouldn't complain because we have had cool weather all summer and most of the rest of the country has had a lot of heat and humidity. I'm hoping that it cools off some more in my apartment so I can sleep. They said we'd end up in the high sixties tonight as the low (which is still way too high for us). It's not making my rash feel much better. I'm going to take another benadryl now.

Simcha so glad you posted back. And glad your doc and you have a plan. If you have aloe vera gel you might try putting that on the rash to cool it. What a pain. But glad it was found on the low dose as no withdrawal. Have you considered trileptal? Phillipa

I got an itchy rash on my hands after starting lamictal, but I was also in the hospital so they thought it might just be the hospital soap. Cortisone cream really helped.

Yeah, thanks, I lathered Gold Bond cream and Hydrocortisone cream last night and I'm rash free today. I also took quite a bit of Benadryl.
