I'm a 56 year old married man who has been on 150 mg. of Zoloft for 10 years for an anxiety disorder. I have trouble reaching orgasm. In one of the earlier threads someone mentioned 30 mg. of Remeron. Any ideas out there?

30mg Remeron could cause considerable drowsiness and weight gain. All of the meds which have been used in attempt to reduce the sexual side effects of SSRIs have the potential to cause side effects, and none of them are reliably effective.
The first thing that you need to do is to establish the minimum effective dose of Zoloft for treating your anxiety. 150mg is a high dose and could potentially be more than you need. Side effects tend to be worse with higher doses.
I would advise that you consult your doctor to discuss this. For example, you could gradually reduce the Zoloft eg. by 25mg every 6 weeks until orgasm becomes easier or anxiety returns.

now i am an expert on this one.Ok 150mg is to high for libido,i take 100mg an although its no easy to orgasm in intercourse , you still keep an erection.so when the wife is satified use your hand to fire the white mice. 50mg is even better but, for me not a strong enough dose of antidepressant. We are lucky a lot of people carnt get an erection at all on 50mg. How come you ask this after 10 years

I'm guessing maybe it's embarrassing or there are now new meds out for this. Just a thought. Phillipa

Thanks everyone for responding. One of you asked me why it has taken 10 years to ask this question. Well I've been putting up with the problem for awhile but I'm getting frustrated that I can't have an orgasm when I'm making love with my wife. I'm thankful for the medicines that have made it possible for me to function. My father was not so lucky. He committed suicide in the early 60's because the medicines weren't available yet. So I am grateful for being able to function but it is not normal to not have an orgasm during intercourse. I also don't like it that I have to threaten my state of health to have an orgasm by lowering my dosage. Aren't the pharmaceutical companies working on this problem? I'm going to do some more research on this.

its a trade off my friend. there,s no such thing as a free lunch.you wont find anything to help orgasm better while on the med, its just the sad fact that most make you fat an screw with your sex life. You are well an can still orgasm by other means, you still get an erection. think yourself very lucky ,i have the same complaint ,but i dont worry we are in the minoritory that can still perform all be at %80 but most carnt perform full stop on meds.Chill or you will make yourself ill, when really you are way above the norm

There's no simple solution I'm afraid. Adding meds such as Wellbutrin can cause additional side effects. Wellbutrin can aggravate anxiety and there's no guarantee that it will work. If you reduce your Zoloft dose very gradually, there is no reason to believe that your health would be threatened. If you anxiety started to return, you could increase it back up again. Many people end up on a higher dose of SSRIs than they actually need because the dose was increased too quickly when the treatment was first started eg. the dose was increased after a few weeks without giving the lower dose a chance to work.

Well I am a young female, so I don't know how much my experience will help you, but what took away my anorgasmia was ED drugs like Viagra and Levitra. Eventually I found an SNRI where the sexual side effects partially wore off - Pristiq. But if you are doing well on Zoloft a med change might not be a good idea.
