Please, Please read... I tried countless meds and I am getting fed up with myself.
Here is the issue... Whenever I take 15 or 10mg parnate (since I take 2 doses a day) I feel pretty lousy afterwards. Mood drops, tiredness, hot headaches, current interests go away, motivation drops, hard to think clearly. Such as when I used to take it during noon & 6pm I would feel best before noon but especially better past midnight.
Now I take it 7am 15mg & 3pm 10mg. When I wake up at 5am I feel quite decent up until 10-30 mins after taking my 7am dose. What gives??? I would even begin to plan out my day and want to even Do Things! Imagine that. Plus my mind would flourish and I'd be thinking up longer words that I normally cannot along with my imagination being a bit more vivid. This is from the fact that the last time I took Parnate was at 3pm the previous day? Seems like it...
How many people successfully take all of their Parnate in the evening before bed? Or the majority of their dose? PLEASE let me know your experiences or any that you have heard.
Additional Info Below...
Parnate does help for my depression and other issues since the time when I was not on it I could not even function properly. The timing of the parnate dosing is what is odd.
I have treatment resistant depression with poor concentration, memory, drive, motivation, interest, and social anxiety.
Been taking Parnate 25mg a while along with valium, ritalin,.
I know 25mg seems like a tiny dose but any time I been on 30mg i would feel very sleepy and one of my hands went numb for almost a full month. I'm sensitive to meds.

I've been taking Parnate for about 4 weeks now and have had a very similar experience. About 30 mins after taking a dose, I either get a "dull", lazy feeling, or the urge to take a nap. I've noticed that I get less of this feeling when taking 20 mg doses as opposed to 10 mg. It's improved maybe 40% since switching from 10 mg 3x/day to 20mg 2x/day.
Since I still felt tired sometimes during the day, last night I took my second 20 mg dose before bed. I didn't notice any sleeping problems and don't feel tired today, so I think I'm going to start taking 20 mg at mid-day and 20 mg at night. That way I can avoid at least one post-Parnate dip.
Also, have you tried timing your Ritalin dose to try to counteract the Parnate's immediate effects? If so, has the Ritalin helped?

Oh, and another thing...have you checked your blood pressure on Parnate? The symptoms you're describing could be caused by Parnate temporarily lowering your blood pressure, making you feel tired or sluggish.

It's so interesting how differently people react to meds. I take parnate early in the day to try to counteract the wicked insomnia it causes me. Literally being unable to sleep for nights on end. I find that it doesn't actually matter when I take it. I still can't sleep. I've become totally dependent on lorazapem to put me out at night.

Hi. Thanks for the replies guys.
It appears regardless of when I take ritalin the Parnate sedation occurs.
Yet recently I dont know why, maybe different manufacturer of my parnate as I had a refill but I am having a lot of SEVERE insomnia lately and Parnate sedation has possibly dissipated. I received zero sleep today and I think maybe few hours the day prior. This is becoming rediculous let I feel often having decent energu despite my black eyes. Yet still feel tired at times but unable to sleep.
But if the previous situation happens again and it has many times.... please offer me advice anyone.

Hi Alex,
Don't give up! I think you are probably getting close. I went through hell with insomnia, falling asleep at random times, etc. When you get up to 60mg per day, and ritalin added to that, I think you will feel alot more in control of your sleep patterns. What is your ritalin dose? Are you feeling a/d effect aside from the s/e's? I would ask your pdoc for a good sleep aid to get you through this. I haven't read the other posts, but have you been keeping track of your BP? If you can check that say half hour after each dosing, and use ritalin to keep your BP steady, I think you'll see an improvement. You don't want your BP jumpin around.
Good luck!

What brand were you taking before and what brand are you taking now? I've noticed that various brands, generic or brand name, can often vary quite a bit in effectiveness. With Prozac, I noticed that PAR Pharmaceutical's brand was way better than other generics, and with Dexedrine the brand name was more effective but not enough to warrant the extra cost). What brands do other people take? I've been taking Par Pharmaceutical's generic Parnate, which is a round red tablet with "K" on one side and "250" on the other. I just did a Google search and apparently there are a few posts on various forums saying that generic Parnate was less effective for them. I'll have to try the name brand.
This is the end of the thread.
