Milnacipran 6th week over today. 25mg once daily.
I take the MIL at 2230 hours after dinner. along goes my lorazepam 0.5mg.
being a night owl I am awake till almost 530 AM. No sedation felt during this time. Head is generally clear and not much of depressive thoughts.I hit the sack at 530AM - and after a good 8 hours of sleep I am barely able to hear the alarm - I have to nap for another 1 hour before I pull myself out of bed. through till dinner time at 1030 I am in zombieland - sleepy - have to take naps in between.
The troubling bit is that throughout this sleepy phase - I almost feel like I am half-alive, half-awake - almost some sort of derealization.
Its worse because such feelings cause anxiety and this combined with the sleepiness causes hell.
Mind feels zombified - no emotions, thoughless, as though I am merely existing. No depression, no anxiety - nothing at all - just nothing. Numb and sleepy - start to have flashbacks - of real events and events from dreams. This is actually somewhat similar to my Lexapro 20mg experience.
fatigued too.
I really dont get whats up - the extra norepinephrine should actually be making me feel more energetic and awake.
Till 8 days ago there was no noticeable day-time sleepiness - infact none. Just started suddenly and is mood-incongruent.
Can I really blame Milnacipran for it? For its rather short 8 hour half life. I tried to take another 25mg in AM to see if things are different - but makes no difference.
My Pdoc says hypersomnia is a depressive symptom and can occur during any stage of a depressive bout. BUt I am definitely sure theres been nothing bad enough for me to feel THAT depressed suddenly.
I am really wondering when most other SEs like nausea hot flushes and sweating have actually dissipated, then hypersomnia (or sedation) is just not making sense somehow, which is not even a reported SE.
I wonder if there is something else at play.
My TSH/T3/T4, Blood sugar, lipid profile, Hb, all seem to be in place - tests done just 3 weeks ago.
