My old doc (I don't see my new doc until June 1st) gave me some samples of Zyprexa and I really like it. I have been taking 2.5mg at night with .5mg of Klonopin and 2.5mg during the day with .5mg of klonopin.
My concern is weight gain. I was wondering if I push up to 5mg of Zyprexa am and pm, will I be at risk for weight gain?
My old doc said to take the whole dose once a day.
If I take 5 mg or even a full 10mg at night, will I gain tons of weight?
Are there any meds I can take with Zyprexa to combat the weight gain or diabetes risk?
I'm already considered obese and I don't want to get fatter or get diabetes.
Any suggestions?
I hate to drop a med that FINALLY works! Of course it would be a med that can cause weight gain! Ugh.

After a few months of Zyprexa at a 10 mg dose, you'll find your girth increasing. Zyprexa really messes with the metabolics of the body.
If you want to combat thee weight gain, you can try Topamax or Zonisamide.

I take zyprexa 15mg with perphenazine 3x12mg a day. I've noticed that I don't eat as much since on perphenazine. In fact my weight has been the same for the last 2 years. I don't get overly hungry like I used to on just zyprexa. I read the information on perphenazine and a side effect is weight loss. So that may work. Or metformin, I took that for a while too and maintained a good weight untill the diabettes went away. I think the geodon gave me diabettes, even though I was not eating a lot. When I went back to zyprexa the diabettes slowly went away.

What is perphenazine? I've never heard of it?

Perphenazine is an old antipsychotic that is really good for agitation.

perphenazine is a typical antipsychotic. Generic. Its sedating like zyprexa but no weight gain. In the Catie studdies it came up as 2nd best to zyprexa. I take both, with good results. I've tried all the atypical APs, none of which worked for me, but perphenazine does.

Sorry I should have mentioned that the one AAP I have not taken is seroquel. I didn't try it because the side effects of it are similar to zyprexa.
