When she denied my request for nortriptyline and more Parnate, my doc mentioned trying me on Remeron. Is that even a useful option with the rest of my meds?
Parnate 60mg
Lamictal 400mg
Geodon 160mg
Levothyroxine 150mcg
Topamax 150mg
D3
Fish Oil**Sorry I've been posting so much-- I'm just obsessed with meds right now. I'm holding onto tiny strands of hope that something can keep me from feeling this bad for the rest of my life.

On what basis?
my doc mentioned trying me on Remeron. Is that even a useful option with the rest of my meds?
Remeron is pretty good I think, problem is mainly sedation and weight gain.
I would much rather advise for an increase in the Parnate.

She's going by the PDR which says 60mg is the upper limit for Parnate and that MAOI and TCAs can't mix. I brought her research showing otherwise but she's an ARNP and has to run it all by the psychiatrist so she said no unless he says otherwise. I'm not holding my breath for a major change since he's old and was around back when the upper level of Parnate was 30mg.

I agree with Ace..."more is not always better" and can be reverse. I think you are already there.
I could see if you were on just Parnate and making a decision between Nortriptyline and Remeron or something else to add to it. But there is already way too much stuff in there that is not doing anything except probably worsening your own unique brain chemistry in a bad way.
The meds were good choices with good reasons when choosing them. Now that you've taken them, it appears very obvious to me they were wrong guesses. It is all guesswork. We win some we lose some. I see them as overgrown weeds in a garden where you're trying to grow roses. The roses don't stand a chance with those weeds in there.
Maybe it's just me, but I do not agree with piling more meds on top of existing losers. Makes no sense. Get rid of the losers.
Even in the STAR*D program where they reached over 80% remission rates, the maximum amount of meds used was 3, but usually only 2.
The goal to keep in mind is "the right meds" not "more meds".
You wouldn't be adding Remeron to Parnate. You would be adding Remeron to a malignant cocktail, which is an entirely different ballgame. Remeron doesn't stand a chance in that muck.
Personally I would not add Remeron unless I traded one of my existing meds straight across for it. If a new one is coming in, an old one has to leave.
