When I think of where I was mentally this time of year last year I want to cry for that person. I wasn't able to leave the house. I ended up in the hospital. I was a mess.
This year, for the first time in many many years I will be able to enjoy Christmas and the holiday season. People already notice that I am very different this year.
If I hadn't started the Parnate when I did I would be dead. I had a plan and it would have worked. But I pushed through the hell of the washout period and here I am on the other end a different person.
I am very grateful this year. Grateful to my pdoc who was willing to put me on Parnate and allow me to add the nortriptyline. I feel better equiped to deal with this hectic season.

I actually just got my pDoc to let me try Parnate so this thread makes me optimistic.
Only 10mg for now and today is just day 1 but I'm really hoping it's going to get me moving again.
Current meds:
Parnate 10mg (probable increase in 2weeks)
Lamictal 100mg
Lithium 900mg
Deplin 7.5mg
Seroquel 100mg (night for sleep)Hope this works and best wishes to all...

I hope that Parnate is the med for you. A week between increases is a long time. I was increasing by 10 mg every three to four days. Speak to your pdoc about ramping up faster.

We need to go slow with me. I'm definitely Bipolar 1 and while I'm dying for some AD relief the first priority for my doctor is making sure I don't go psychotic manic which sadly happens to me on certain meds.....

Thanks for the encouraging words and I'm hoping beyond hope that I can say the same next year! The 60mg of Parnate stopped me from crying non-stop and I'm holding to a few very thin strands of hope that a higher dosage will bring me out of this horrible depression (or that my pdoc will add nortriptyline to do that)... Some days I think I'll just live like this forever.

I wish you the best with this med. I hope it doesn't affect your bipolar. I am bipolar type 2 and have no problems with it. But bipolar 1 is a different beast.
Will you keep us posted? I want to know how you are doing on the med.

> Will you keep us posted? I want to know how you are doing on the med.I'll try. So far so good but yea still only 10mg. Pretty sure I'll be going to 30mg when I see my doc again on the 30th.
Definitely feeling much better than I was prior to the Parnate (and Lamictal increase) last Thursday.
Seeing the doctor on the 30th and I think the plan is to increase the Parnate to 30mg. I'll try to post on my experience. Thanks for the interest!
Happy holidays,

Maxime I have started Parnate up again. I was on it a year ago with positive yet inconsistent results until after several months I was advised to go on a higher dose and the medication no longer worked well for me anymore. I was sleeping and tired constantly.
What dose do you personally take? And how low did you start off and how did dose progress? Any estimated guess if you can't recall would be appreciated. Also any others here who have Parnate experience?
I recieve insomnia some some improvement to my treatment resistant depression + extra energy despite poor sleep. I take Parnate with ritalin and valium. i might need to change valium to ativan though since i have trouble being social a lot of the time.
Can you or anyone else share some info/experiences/suggestions? I am on 20mg parnate now after starting 10mg on Dec 11th.

I find that Parnate has its best chance of producing a response when it is used in dosages between 40mg and 80mg. What dosage were you taking when you responded best to it?
I never experienced daytime sleepiness with Parnate, regardless of when I took it. I like to take it in divided doses twice a day - morning and afternoon.
Perhaps you would do better with Nardil.
