Xanax XR is not effective

Posted by rjlockhart04-08 on December 14, 2009, at 14:36:11

I gotta say the way this...is released is 2mg releases a ".5mg" and then the rest is slowly released yet it's not noticed at all, and then anxiety is going on thought the day. 3mg is .75mg yet there is not much diffrence.

The doctor usally prefer's exteneded release because of lower addiction/abuse potential. Is Ativan known for addiction because I did mention it and my doctor just said "xanax xr" minimal addiction potential... i'm grateful just for the ".5mg" that releases...tell ya the truth, it only helps for 2 hours.

rj, I have never used xanax of any "speed" so I can't answer to that...

As far as Ativan goes yes it can be addicting. I actually got to the point where the 1 mg I was taking each night was becoming ineffective and the doc did NOT want to increase my dosage.

I was on it for about a year or so due to some sleep problems that I had that ultimately turned out to be hormonal (I'm in that lovely time in my life LOL) Once I got the proper meds from my "girl doc" for that my primary doc weaned me off of the Ativan ( I took generic lorazepam)

I liked the lorazepam because it didn't "knock me out" in minutes like an Ambien did..it let me gently ramp down into sleep and more importantly kept me asleep for the entire night...

I know other folks who take it for anxiety and also really like it...ya just have to be aware of the potential addiction issue and monitor your usage..

I wish you well - these med issues are maddening...

Hugs,
toots

Hey rj,

I had the same thing with Xanax XR (generic), 2mg of XR was nowhere close to 2mg reg Xanax.

Are you taking the brand or generic?

Some people have said that there is difference between brand and generic, and even a difference in the generics (greenlabs... something has a bad rep).

I've tried both recently (generic and brand xanax xr) and found no difference. My experience was that xanax xr did not give the same depth of coverage from anxiety as klonopin did. (However, Klonopin did depress my mood over time.)

I've only had ativan once--what a knock-out. I imagine the abuse potential might be pretty high.
