for this legal technicality itself, whatever it means: "Date issued: August 11, 2009"
and: "On July 9, 2009, Health Canada issued a Notice of Compliance to Bristol-Myers Squibb Canada for the drug product Abilify."
can anyone explain the significance of these two possible milestones? i called one of the shopper's drug marts still open, and they haven't received either the drug or anything indicating anything on a changing approval status.
probably sometime after the first date aug. 11 at my usual pharmacy the pharmacist said she was almost sure she came across something about the drug at some point that seemed to indicate something was going on, but that it was a while ago, and when she checked on her computer for it, nothing came up.

I had originally heard from a drug rep that the med was coming out in July. But it didn't. I wonder how much longer we will have to wait. If you find anything more out can you please post it. I will do the same.

From what I can figure out Health Canada has approved it. Probably what's holding everything up is the provincial levels..the drug reps have to start again with each province to get it on their approved drug list..I see my pdoc on the 24th and see if he knows anything.

I may not be using the official language, but I believe that there is one more step yet to complete, the filing of a marketing plan. Only the patent holder can file one, but it still must be in place before the drug can be distributed to pharmacies. I just checked, and Abilify is not yet in the active drug database.

they said the drug has been pushed into october, and the way i would get it would be through special access.
they forwarded my call to their office handling special access programme related queries, which was closed by the time of my call, but i left a message. my goal at that point was to ask them how long their process is after federal special access approval is granted. (that's the quick and easy part.) the process of getting agomelatine from Servier involved a lot of paperwork, faxes, calls back and forth, two sudden freezes in progress due to week-long vacations, leading it to take over two months to finally get the drug, but very graciously it was then given to me for free. contrast this with Sanofi-Aventis, which was the opposite situation: no paperwork, drug shipped to us in a surprising quantity, 300$ invoice followed.
if i find out that their handling of special access cases is different (as in maybe miraculously ideal: no papers, no wait, no cost) i'll post again. the applications to the government are very easy to make.
otherwise: "october" :(

if "october" means october though, and not say: january. if they call me back, i'll ask them how confident an october date is. either way, i think i am going to try special access, i want to try it sooner rather than later. october 1st still means most of this month wasted for me. :(

Are you both going to try it? I'm going to talk to my pdoc about whether it may be a good med for me (that's if I remember, cause my memory is terrible).

I wanted to try it, but now that i know it's weight gained, I won't be trying it.
This is the end of the thread.
