Best SNRI: Savella, Cymbalta, Pristiq, or Effexor?

Posted by Frustratedmama on July 12, 2009, at 12:51:23

Taking a poll.....
Just wondering what you all would do....
Given the following choices: Savella, Effexor, Pristiq, or Cymbalta?

I am prone to weight gain so that is a major factor in choice as I recently gained a lot of weight.....

Looking for advice from those of you that have been there.....

Best med of the above and why?
Expericences with the above meds.....?
Efficacy, side effects, benefits, etc.....

Thanks so much
FM

I bet effexor and cymbalta are most potent of them. I bet either of them will be good for you. Effexor is known for its high potency I think. I dont do well with SNRIs really, I get major palpitations and raised blood pressure. Its not subtle either.
But Im sure youre different than me, so I think you will have good luck with them.
Effexor also has a generic..... although Im not fond of generics.
I hope you respond to these drugs like most people do!! Like suppressed appetite instead of weight gain like I get.
Cymbalta lowered my appetite a lot.. but for some its the oppisite.
IMHO Id go for effexor! If that doesnt work then Cymbalta! Good luck and love

Oh boy since I'm wierd took cymbalta with benzos for over three months at 60mg and noticed nothing till went off it then lots of body aches and pains still have them years later old age.

Years ago tried effexor with benzos of course and it was during menopause lasted about five days.

Luvox is the only ad I've stayed on with low dose benzos although it just doesn't work.

Paxil was my first l0mg with benzos and beer three months of misery and I was okay. Now I never took an ad till thyroid went. Until them benzos only for anxiety and I did fine felt good. But I never gained weight on any of them. Love Phillipa. Easy for me to say oh try this or that but would I no a chicken.

Effexor made me agitated and cymbalta didn't do much altho I think I told you it was the AD of choice for both my father and uncle who were having rage attacks. Pristiq has really helped me. I have gained a bit of weight since I was on it but I am also taking seroquel and remeron both of which make it impossible to stop eating once I start. Fortunately I am able to handle it by stuffing my face with veggies. It's not pretty but it works, more or less.

None of the above worked well except for Savella which I am just starting...so too soon to tell.

First choice. Milnacipran.
Second choice. Effexor.

Personal experience only. It will differ with everyone. My least favorite, cymbalta, will be a miracle for someone else.

I found Cymbalta to produce more tiredness and fatigue than Effexor.

Scott please don't take this wrong as even with many benzos at the time never was tired or wired on cymbalta. How high did you go? I forget this was when I first joined the site. Phillipa

I was allergic to Effexor...itching!!

I'm on day 7 of Pristiq and vomit my nights meds up within a minute of taking them. Not sure how long this nausea lasts but its about worn out its welcome already.

For me, Effexor XR @ 75mg was one of the best drugs I have ever taken.

didn't like cymbalta, pristiq was too strong, no experience w/ savella (hope to try some soon though)

Hi Phil..
I was just prescribed PRISTIQ to take the place of Zoloft that stopped working.
I have the pills...but have not taken them yet.

Anything further on your experience ?
