I am wondering what people's experiences are with stimulants, specifically those people with innattentive type, WITHOUT hyperactivity. If you have innattentive type and suffer from inability to focus multitask, working memory (aka short term memory)problems, etc, my question is:
Which medication works the best for you without causing social withdrawal?
A few years ago I had tried adderall, but it seemed to make me paranoid and socially withdrawn. bear in mind, this was years ago before I had made great strides with my social anxiety, but I am wary of trying it again. I am now on Concerta, and I haven't quite decided if I like it yet.
Therefore please if you could take the time...
a) what medication works the best for inattentive type adhd WITHOUT hyperactivity?
b) what are the effects of that med, if any, on socialization?
and
c) is there any way to prevent tolerance?

I'd like to know this as well. Dexedrine helped me not to feel too socially withdrawn, although I feel that it didn't work as well as concerta.
I too have inattentive type so I appreciate the drive I get from stims, but it does make me even more withdrawn then I normally am (which is already an issue).

My husband uses concerta for ADD. Helps him focus, does not seem to increase his anxiety and has not had any tolerance develop for over a year. Sounds like you have noticed that it increases your social anxiety which is perfectly possible since it is a stimulant. It might also make you more sociable however. Concerta is virtually the same med as Adderal in a time release formula. Maybe that you have made great strides psychologically with your social phobia and that you no longer have to worry so much about that side effect.

>concerta is methylphenidate. adderal is a mix of d-amphetamine and l-amphetamine.

Hello Michael,
I do have ADD inattentive and SP. I have been on dexedrine spansules and the short acting dexedrine for about 2-3 months. Personally, they help my SP, and I find I can better practice my CBT skills so much more easily. As far as tolerance, I don't get the same motivational lift I did at first; however, my concentration is still vastly improved and my SP still better. I don't think this quite addresses your questions, but hopes it helps some.
