Depends on insurance type also I have medicare so pay out of pocket $38.00. Depends what area you're in also. Some clinics have sliding scales and don't charge much based on income. A hospital ER has to treat you maybe one could refer you to a clinic just a thought. Phillipa

When I saw my first psychiatrist I had to pay $30 and the same amount for my psychologist. On the receipts they had that a 15 minute session with my psychiatrist was $90 and a 45 minute session with my psychologist was $150. That was with no insurance. That was in 2007.
I have since then found a new psychiatrist that I only pay $5 to see each session for 15 minutes. The full charge with no insurance is $60.
Phone Consultations are the cheapest and the most productive in my opinion. You tell them how you feel, you give suggestions and maybe, just maybe, they give you the medicine you're hoping for.
If you have no insurance it is expensive, unless you have low income as explained in a post above.
Call around and get rates.
Hope this helps ;-)

You tell them how you feel, you give suggestions and maybe, just maybe, they give you the medicine you're hoping for.For some psychiatrists they may have different rates but you lose the face to face conversation which I think is important.
The doctor can't examine you for pinpoint side effects, your demeanor, other things that would give them a much clearer picture of your progress and of course, diagnosing.
> If you have no insurance it is expensive, unless you have low income as explained in a post above.Yes, unfortunately, and a number of insurance companies do not reimburse psychiatrists/psychologists as much as family physicians (even then they don't do a lot), hence why some may not accept most insurance.
But that's going on my tirade about insurance in general in this country and the state of health care....
They can range up to $200-$400 for an "hours" session depending on where you live and other factors, and especially for a first consultation. If you come in more frequently you may be able to reduce the rates.

My PDoc sees me for 30 minutes, I don't know how common that is tho. Psychologists always see you for an hour, around same price but they can't prescibe meds. Do you have private insurance? Because when I got mine the wouldn't cover anything like depression, but they had to start covering it when I had been with them for ten months. See if your policy works that way, or maybe you want to get one that works that way. You'd have to pay out of pocket till then, but I have the feeling you'll be needing this for a while, even if just the meds.
I posted you on other site, did you get your babble mail set up? If not can you do that please? D/R is trying to reach you to help out
with that appt., travel, etc.Thanks!

> The insurance of the gob its simply unexistentThat's good that doctors spend more time with you where you are. I believe the 15 minute and out the door thing is an awful thing but its part of our system. May this administration get some headway on national coverage.
Preexisting conditions are simply a way of insurance companies trying to create as much profit and give as little care under their actuarial standards.
It is illegal here to disclose HIV status in a variety of situations for example -- unfortunately it does occur.Because of the vast public legal and emotional cause at the time, the Ryan White Act (which was renewed) does provide last resort care, as do numbers of agencies around the nation.
When it comes to mental health, well I stand on my soapbox. Its biochemical origin, and people may have their own opinions on this, but plain and simple, in my own opinion only, it is within one's own best advantage to advocate for equal status, because there is nothing different about a psychiatric disorder than if it was based on a tumor or any other "organic" condition. And by that basis, no different than heart disease or any other "recognized" conditions.
[end soapbox]
