funny, it could be true. people around my office get freaked out if no one makes coffee in the community coffee pot in the morning.
i personally don't like the taste of coffee unless its rich dark black (french roast) or doused in flavored creams.
i mostly would drink it for the caffine boost if i drink it. and the warmth.
but i prefer teas.Love good earth.
but i need to be careful with the caffine levels.but my one friend...ooh you take away her coffee and you take away her lifeline!

Wowsa, those are quite the inferences about American culture given that anecdotal messages on a self-selected message board hardly comprise a representative sample of Americans.

Coffee can aggravate anxiety disorders - but what about people with depression..? Surely caffeine would have an alerting effect on such sufferers (albeit a mild one, and certainly no substitute for antidepressant medications).

Good tea and ale availible in england, its a good place. But most restaurants in american have good coffee and bad tea so i only drink tea at home. I'd be even more sluggish and foggy without caffine.

The babysitter I had when I was a child drank coffee in the morning for her "breakfast." The next time that she ate was between late-afternoon to early evening. At this time, she would eat chips and donuts. For most part, that's all she ever ate.
She cleaned houses for a living, though, so she was quite active. Given her job of cleaning houses, she apparently needed the pick-me-up of the caffeine in the coffee each morning.
Occasionally, when she was in between houses, she would go to Bojangles, McDonald's, or Burger King to get lunch if she had enough time. Whenever she went to one of those places, she would get a coke without ice. I think she did this so she could get more caffeine from the drink.
Most of the time, though, she didn't have enough time to get lunch, so she waited until she got home and was done for the day to begin her "meal" for the entire day. In her case, as mentioned above, it was chips and donuts. Sometimes, she ate ice cream as well (she bought a 1/2 gallon carton of it almost everyday).

Michael Moore did a great shtick on this
I think in Roger and Me back in 89
Americas actually do not take their coffee drinking seriously enough
you have to stand in line behind people ordering "decaf skim mocha locha" fake stuff
we need "just a cup o joe thankyou" lines

Oh tea itself can have up to 100mg of caffeine per serving itself, if not somewhat less or more, depending on variety and steeping.
Tea doesn't just contain caffeine, it also contains small amounts of the drug theophylline, first extracted from tea leaves and eventually synthesized.
Its an agent used in certain asthmatic disorders but is pretty potent and full of side effects and isn't used for many these days.
Most varieties of tea, fermented Camellia sinensis probably have an average amount of caffeine but Black Tea has the most, with varieties of Green Tea generally having smaller amounts of caffeine.

Jay theophylline is what the two taste and smell centers said would restore my taste and smell didn't take it though as anxiety was very bad at the time. And I remembered how anxious patients in the hospital were that were on it or aminophylline drips. So What do you think of that? Love Phillipa

One of the people that seems to be behind its use seems to have controversial views and insufficient studies.
Considering your anxiety, theophylline would probably act like an adrenaline shot and raise your anxiety, but I can't say for sure.
And also its a question, if there is any theory behind it, whether it is psychiatric or organically based, from what I can see, but I must say that I can't really place any statement one way or the other.
As for peer reviewed discussions on this I found the following summary :
Nasal disorders can also cause this as a lack of taste is also connected with a lack of smell, there are treatments if that is the cause.
In your case, with a disorder that is basically contributing to hypothyroidism, hormone treatment may increase function, but I don't know if that is true with autoimmune disorders or not.

I don't know, I'm still here and I raise Camellia sinensis plants as a hobby. They're very fussy about alkaline water and shade and are hard to keep the leaves fully green like regular Camellia sp.The seeds of the small white flower buds can be made into an oil similar to grapeseed or olive oil.
They flower in the fall unlike regular camellias which flower in the early to mid spring.
I've basically tried what would amount to white tea -- there is a very faint green liquid after a while. I think younger leaves yield better tea, but I'm not an expert.
