I'm happy to say it's working well. After a couple of weeks I was feeling much better and the side effects had mostly subsided. The only remaining side effect was the sexual thing. That's improved but it's still present.
Having the dark cloud lifting off me more than offsets the downside.
I hope you get good results too. The upset stomach will pass and you'll enjoy eating again soon.

Hey this is my first time on any mental meds, because i have been having so much anxiety over the past year. My father died about 5 years ago and i have never been the same since (i think i might have had post dramatic stress, but im no doctor). Anyway my doctor prescribed me lexapro, and told me to start with 5 mg and then after the first week move up to 10. I have only taken one dose so far and i already feel the effects.
It does keep me up tho and makes me feel restless. So when do you guys take it? My doctor told me it would make me tired and that i should take it at night but i dont know how that is working out.

lexapro is the best
i am sorry i suffer meltdowns on all meds
if lexapro would keep working for me I would take it for the rest of my life.
it makes me feel like me
i laugh
my libido is excellent
i wake up in the mornig feeling good
my fear stays at bay
positive sense of future
i never took it at night
even taking it in the morning i still had sleep disturbances
for anyone who is just starting lexapro i advise you stay busy and stay out of social and business meetings that entail long periods of sitting still (especially if they are boring). it takes a while to get used to having your energy back.
good luck

Hi,
How long did it take for it to work for you? I'm at week 3 of 10mg and although I notice some improvement, I still feel depressed and that Blah type of feeling, like I did with The Seroxat when it stopped working.
I know I have to give this drug at least 6 weeks but I'm starting to feel disheartened.

Some start-up side effects are common and usually clear up within a few days. I'm actually restarting Lex tomorrow. I hope it worked as well for me as it did before. Hang in there! I found it worked very quickly for me. Hopefully, you'll start feeling like your old self again.
In the meantime, keep posting any questions you have. There are lots of supportive people here to help you during this stage.
I don't recall having vision problems when starting it, but then I have horrible memory :). I would think the fact the vision problems correspond with starting the med would indicate it's a start-up side effect and should settle down shortly.
I hope you feel better soon!

thanks for the support and answering so quickly. i called my dr and he said to keep taking it and if i still have it by next tues to come back in but that it is probably a side effect. I do find i'm having more panic feelings since on it, but i think that's mostly my own doing by my worring about taking this med. i feel silly worrying so much about taking a med that is suppose to help me. i wish i didn't worry so much. I just want to wake up one morning and have the side effects all stopped:) Good news is the nauseauness has started getting a litte better, but the lighted headedness is still about the same:-( I'm haning in there though:-)
thanks again!!!

While I'm sure what you are experiencing is quite unpleasant, be assured that it is not unheard of. Many people experience intense anxiety and even panic attacks when starting an SSRI like Lexapro. This can be minimized by starting at a low dose. How many milligrams are you taking?
If start-up anxiety is still an issue, some add a benzodiazepine like clonazapem. You could ask your doctor about this. The idea is to use the benzodiazepine for the transition period while you're getting used to the Lexapro.

i am using 10mg a day. i called my dr and he said the panic attacks where not due to lexapro since lexapro is suppose to help just that. BUT i think it is a sideeffect because it started 2 days after taking it. i honetlsy dont want to stop but i also dont want panic attacks. he told me to stop taking it and come in monday but i may still continue over the weekend to see if i get more use to it.

Perhaps you could try decreasing to 5mg by cutting the pills in half and see how that goes. In the long-term, Lexapro should help with panic attacks. But it may make them worse in the short-term. Try to remember that the panic feeling will go away.

you have to keep moving for the first few weeks and avoid getting "stuck" in crowded restaurants or boring meetings.
it does calm down
if you can't get benzos try taking it with a single benadryl
good luck

Hi, I know nothing about lexapro, don't have any input there, just want to say that adjusting to medication can be horrid. You are going to see your doc on Monday, hang in there and be good to yourself.

Hi Sue Lynn - I hope you hang in there, lexapro has helped many. I've taken it off & on for about 5 years. If you scroll wwwaaaayyy up on these messages, to 2004, you will see the reactions of many people just starting on lex and you may take comfort from their reports of s/e's (including anxiety) easing up in 1 - 2 weeks! I take it at night & that seems to work well for me. If you can't sleep, the benadryl will help & maybe you'll sleep thru some of the s/e's :-) Be good to yourself!

Yes, you can take Benadryl and Tylenol with Lexapro. Lexapro has very few interactions with over-the-counter medications, one reason why doctors choose it as first-line treatment. Hope the anxiety level is going down.

Can you take herbs like golden seal while you are taking Lexapro? I usually take Golden Seal & Ecineacea when I get a cold but didnt know if it's ok now that i'm on lexapro. I'm on 5mg a day. Also i like to have a glass of wine some nights to unwind, but is it ok for me to drink a glass while on Lexapro also?
