Hi, I'm new here and have a question about Seroquel. I'm on a low dose of 50 mg and have been on it for only 3 days. I'm really going to try and be patient but, does anyone know about how long it takes to notice improvement? I suffer from paranoia, racing thoughts, irritability and severe depression. I'm on Effexor for the depression (225mg) and it's doing nothing for me and it's been over 4 weeks with the Effexor. Any information would be really helpful!! Thank You..

You should feel sedation from Seroquel on the very first day.

Hi jari,
Is the plan to raise the dose of seroquel slowly? The reason I ask, is that 50mg is unlikely to help treat some of the symptoms you are experiencing. A dose of 50mg is commonly used as a sleep aid for insomnia.
Hope this helps,
Phoenix

If you've never taken Seroquel before, I would agree, you should feel some soporific effects fairly soon, if thats what you are taking it for.If its for paranoid parts of depression, I'm not sure that's high enough of a dose, usually 100, 200 or so would be needed. But that's up to you and your doctor.
Its sort of antithetical that you're taking Effexor for racing thoughts since it can be pretty activating but then again, sometimes activating agents, like amphetamines and the like can be calming for some people. I know Effexor personally is a fiery irritant.

I know you're new here and I'm not trying to be a nanny -- welcome -- I don't really always agree with board rules, but posting a lot about the same thing isn't usually the best thing here.
People will answer you, trust me. If you don't get an answer, sure, post again.
I can feel your anxiousness about this and as I posted above and the previous poster noted, it may not really be a high enough dose of Seroquel for what you are taking it for

50 mg is not enough take 100 mg twice daily
