I have the seemingly unique reaction to SSRIs of loosing my appetite rather than increasing it. I say this though, without making it past a two month trial period on any of them due to extreme sensetivities and side effects.
I'm simply curious if anyone has found Lexapro to initially have an appetite supressing action only to have it turn into an appetite increasing action over time. I've tried it before and lost my appetite on it but again, didn't make it past 2 months. I'm going to give it another go though.
I'm also curious if people have found the stomach troubles to go away after a few months. Thanks

I know it's not really relevant here, but Mirtazapine drastically increased my appetite! I could eat for the world and still be hungry! Seroxat also made me eat loads. I must have put on over a stone while taking 30mgs of Seroxat!

Yes same here as the SSRI's increase my anxiety so I'm not hungry and stayed very slim til being able to tolerate luvox at low doses of course add menopause to that. But sertonin receptors are mostly in the gut so probably why. Never gained weight on an antidepressant too cymbalta for three months at 60mgs and no weight gain either. Phillipa

Yes I think that Lexapro will cause an appetite suppression at first probably because of the increased anxiety. Once the anti-anxiety part kicks in (1-2 months) I found that I was eating maybe a bit more.
What was really strange for me was a craving for alcohol - especially wine..

Actually, that's not unusual with SSRIs -- they often decrease appetite initially, and may cause some weight loss at first. This effect is often lost after about six months -- at which point they may start to cause weight gain. The whole weight thing is largely due to their action on the serotonin receptors in the gut -- that's where about 95% of the serotonin in your body is used.
In general, yes -- the GI upset that some people experience on SSRIs at first does usually go away. Again, that's part of the serotonin activity in your digestive tract -- serotonin mediates gut motility, as well as the signals telling your brain that you're full. Once your body adjusts -- by making the serotonin receptors in question less sensitive to all that serotonin that's tickling them -- the GI troubles usually go away.
I hope that helps.

and then it went away and my appetite increased
