Not to burst bubbles

Posted by ny2bk on January 26, 2008, at 0:30:37

Im not trying to burst bubbles,i love to hear success stories always.Im just personaly concerned about the attention and confusion of DEPLIN.

DEPLIN is a nutrient made drug.It is noted to be a highly deficient nutrient in depressives,as well as be a benifit regardless as it works well with b vitamins.

I did not know the dramatic effect it can have on restoration of brain chemicals, but am highly delighted.

Im on it now, however i believe people should look into this drug closly because it for the most part seems to be a augmentation drug, meaning it kinda sets up the pins for the med to come and get a strike.

It seems to be indicated for helping a "pooped" out med regain effect by replenshing chemicals to allow the drug to work.

I dont see it being touted as a stand alone drug, its not,its a nutrient binded to enter the brain more readly, and a nutrient known to have positive effects.

I can be wrong, but personaly i would not hope anything from the drug/nutrient itself, rather have high hopes for the current med im on to start working better DUE TO the deplin.

I dont see deplin as a monottherapy idea, and id be careful doing so.

Also i bow to the recent death of the actor from the movie THE PATRIOT,sorry its late i dont remeber the name, however with cases such as his,and britney spears, among others loosing it due to script meds,i think its one way unfortuantly the public will take notice, and start seeing what we see here day in and out.

As various stars fall victim to script meds, britney spears, anna nicole, her son, etc,i think the world will be more attentuntive to these dangers we face.

Im tired and a little tipsy, sorry if i offend anyone, just felt the need to let some thinking out, well wishes to all and good night.

I'm on Deplin as an augmenter and at 7.5mg the thing that concerns me is if you take one b vitamin I've heard you can become deficient in the other B's and I've so far asked two doc one my endo and no one has heard of Deplin which concerns me.

I think you're referring to the actor in Outback and I heard a talk show say something about ambien in his cocktail. Didn't here anthing else as I think they said he was trying to sleep which leads me to fear that the meds that are supposed very safe may not be.

So far any improvement with deplin? Me none so far about three weeks into it. Phillipa

The only B vitamin you can become deficient in from taking folic acid is B-12. You should have the levels drawn before taking Deplin anyway, just to follow the lab results to see if it is doing anything. My endo, who is treating me with Synthroid, told me that the best test for checking Folic acid is hemocysteine. Mine was normal. If the homocysteine is elevated both folic acid and B-12 can be deficient. I didn't have my B-12 level drawn but based on my normal homocysteine, B-12 and folic acid should be normal.

Deplin is not a drug that most doctors will know about unless they treat patient for folic acid deficiencies and who would be checking for this except a homeopathic or naturopath, not a typical internist. I do think psychiatrists should be checking for deficiencies in the B vitamins (at least B-12 and folic acid) though, from what I now understand about them in relation to depression and other neurological conditions.

I have to check but perhaps the neurologist I saw for W/U of MS may have drawn these labs. I will check those results. I get all my lab test results for my own records, of course, since I can track my results better than they can.

My infection control specialist for the chronic lymes did test B12 once and it was in the high range so I'm not really worried about it either. I also keep records of all labs and now a new endo too who believes that a TSH of 2.5 is fine for a person with known thyroid disorder and that I can go back to taking synthroid with breakfast and he will adjust the synthroid as was done in the past with other docs. Also he's doing an adreanal stress test. Which should have been done by the first one as my Mother had the Addison's disease. Also he was appaled that the other practice associated with the other hospital doesn't allow changing docs if not a good fit and said they do it all the time there. He's younger and from Manhattan. I liked him. Phillipa ps also checks thyroid levels every three weeks. Other was six weeks.

I agree that Deplin may indeed be a good adjunct therapy and probably will not in and of itself work as an AD. It's touted as an augmenter and I don't think folks should have the idea that its properties can fill the expectations of potential AD actions... at least not presently.

I think it may help brain chemistry work better but more of an intervention is needed to assure the chemistry is where it needs to be worked with....
