I'm just wondering what dose others take to stay wakeful. I'm taking 250mg and it's still leaving me tired. Is anyone on a higher dose?
Thanks

> DHow long have you been taking it and did it keep you awake and focussed at the beginning? If so it may be tolerance. I had tolerance bad with Provigil. Only things that worked were increasing the dose up to 500mg+ (which will inevitably continue to build tolerance) or take a break from it, say 3-4 day & start again at 100mg. I think short holidays from Provigil are commonly necessary to keep it working.

I take 200 mg per day. I'm not sure it has the same effect it did when I first started it, but I still do better with it versus without it.
How much sleep are you getting?

I get more than enough sleep- on the higher side because I am naturally a very tired person. I notice that my exhaustion comes in waves (I have bipolar one) even though I am on moodstabalizers and antipsychotics. So some times 100mg is fine, 200 might wire me and sometimes (like now) 400 is just about keeping me awake. So it's definitely not tolerance.
i'm quite frustrated and hopeless because I can't tolerate other stimulants- they destabalize me. I'm wondering how high one can go on the provigil safely.
Thanks for your replies :)

As an alternative to Provigil you could try ALCAR (Acetyl-L-Carnitine). If it wern't for ALCAR I would be fatigued most of the day. I get mine from here: http://www.1fast400.com/?products_id=1186 at a very reasonable price. Take 2-3g per day. Split doses into 2 - morn & midday. Take on an empty stomache at least 1/2hr BEFORE food, preferably stirred into fruit juice as its very acidic. 1/4tsp = 620mg. It wont interact with your meds.
Bupropion MIGHT be another option but it may interact with your AP &/or bipolar. Might be worth asking your doc though. For me it was ALOT more stable than what Provigil ever was.
IMHO I think Provigil might not be the best med for you.
Just suggestions ;)

Sorry to interrupt, but I'd like to redirect follow-ups regarding ALCAR to Psycho-Babble Alternative. Here's a link:
