I have read that Cymbalta was approved by Health Canada for the treatment of depression on November 1, 2007, however, is not yet available in Canadian pharmacies.
Does anyone know how long it usually takes following approval for it to be available in pharmacies? How do you go about finding out if pharmacies are carrying it - just call around?
Thanks.

Correct. It has not yet been marketed in Canada. Once the sponsor has notified Health Canada that they are marketing the approved medication, then it will appear in the active product database. It's not there, yet.
Here's the database link: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/dhp-mps/prodpharma/databasdon/index_e.html

I note Lexapro (as Cipralex) has been approved, also. It was approved over a month later, but it's already available.

Thanks so much, Larry. I called Eli Lilly and was told that the forecasted availability date is February 15, 2008. The woman I spoke to said that a doctor can prescribe it now and the pharmacist will notify the person when the script is available.Re Lexapro - it must be the generic that is now available in Canada, which is good. I have been on Lexapro for close to a year now.
This is the end of the thread.
