A friend is thinking of starting on it for acute anxiety. Remeron is another med he is going to ask his doctor about. I think I've read that Remeron doesn't effect sex drive or function so maybe this would be better for him.

Was on zypexa for 8 years. Dose was 5mg. It actually improved my sexual desire, partially erasing the sexual numbness of ssris and eliminated anorgasmia. I suspect this was due to the 5ht blockade similar to remeron. Possibly due to increased brain concentration of dopamine, even though receptors were partially blocked.
The first month or so there was a drop in libido. Studies have shown that zyprexa does initially increase prolactin levels, which dampen libido, but that with prolonged usage the prolactin returns to baseline levels. That happened with me. My prolactin tests came back normal.
Gaining an erection was admittedly a little bit more difficult but still quite reliable. I found 25mg viagra was more than enough. Whether it was normal aging, prozac, or zyprexa, I don't know. But for overall sexual functioning I would say zyprexa was either neutral or slightly helpful after getting past a two month window during which time libido was low.

May reduce interest. But does not stop it.
