I have GAD and have been taking 20 mg. of Lexapro along with 2 mg. of Xanax XR/day.
Recently in discussing weight gain with my pdoc we decided that I could taper down to 10 mg. of Lexapro.
This is day 4 and so far, I feel no side effects from the taper at all. I guess I'm rather surprised, although she did tell me it wouldn't be difficult until week 2.
Please share your experiences with tapering or going off Lexapro.

I didn't have any side effects tapering from 20 to 10..it was going off it that I experienced side effects..the usual brain shivers and anxiety..lasted maybe a day or two longer than Zoloft..but within a week they were gone..not a fun experience while you're doing it..but like I said, the reduction from 20 to 10 was OK

Funny seems it's not that hard to cut down it's the final part that is hard. That's just my opinion. Phillipa

Hi I have been off lex now for I guess about 8 or 9 days and I get the brain shivers some but I am on topamax and it helps with them. I did take benedryl to help with it. I got a headache a day or so when I should have taken my next one. I got some anxiety, my anxiety is peaking but I am not sure that isn't due to therapy so it is hard to say. Therapy is going deep. But depression is not back yet. So that is good. I found lex so much easier than cymbalta. I am having some night sweats and a slight rash. That is it. A little cold like symptoms but overall not bad. Good luck. rsk

When I've tapered off various meds I usually do not feel anything for 3 to 7 days. There seems to be a delay. There are a number of other meds much more difficult to taper than lexapro, so that is in your favor.
