Anyone Taken Hydergine?

Posted by bleauberry on November 30, 2007, at 20:24:01

Hydergine is recommended in my favorite book "Amalgam Illness" as being a good supplement to help with mood and foggyness, especially at higher doses. It is usually used as a cognitive booster or a smart drug.

Curious if anyone has tried it, what it felt like, and what the side effects were.

Good for me. Felt like an AD should.

(This made me think that I was intolerant of NE but not DA.)

Side effects are insomnia and nasal stuffiness on higher doses.

I took around 9 to 13.5mg/d sublingual.

I just felt better, nicer, more settled, happier sitting in restaurants watching the crowds (I was on holidays).

Thank you for the info. How long did you take it for? Are you still taking it? And if not, why not?

I would have taken it for a year or two at least.

I thought it felt a bit like deprenyl, but nicer.

I'm not taking it at the moment, for no particular reason.

It is expensive.

I'd like to get hold of the generic, but since Libertarian Solutions went off the map I've not seen that.

Did you have any more motivation or were you just happier and focusing more easily?

I remember at the time thinking it didn't do that much for my focus, which is what I'd expected.

But it did make me feel better. More content, happier. Felt better in the moment.

And having read the package insert, I took it that the DA+ and NE- was what suited me.

I have tried it at small doese as a smart drug. I didn't felt any changes in my mood or in my cognitive functions.

Hm, I also need DA+ and NE-.

I see it's available from some offshore pharm retailers, but can you get it retail in the US anywhere?

I took hydergine at 9mgs. a day for about 6 months a few years back. Combined with caffeine it was a very effective AD and I also noticed my writing ability, creativity especially was boosted quite a bit. Other notable aspects were increased energy and social interest. Hydergine is a good drug and one I wouldn't hesitate to go back to if the herbal cocktail I'm on every stops working.

Does increased energy mean you had more motivation on hydergine? Did you take anything else along with the it? Would you mind telling me what herbs you are taking now and what they are doing for you?

Thanks.

Hi C40,

I had more motivation, mental and physical while taking Hydergine. It could be well described as ennervating to mind and body. The only other substance I took with it was a cup of coffee or two twice a day. A habit which I pick up and put down from time to time.

The herbs I'm taking are Vitex, Rhodiola, and Forskolin. They are all working to provide a strong antidepressant effect.

I wonder if Hydergine is safe or whether we should be concerned because it's an ergot derivative.

We don't often read about people who are getting such good results from herbs alone. Wish I had had a good response to Rhodiola. After a few days it just made me feel sick. What a disappointment. Will definitely have to try the other two you mentioned though.

Hey Tenman

I'm curious about your reaction to the interesting and complex forskolin.

I shall start a thread about it on alternative.

Good choices. While most focus on SJW, ginkgo, ginseng, amino acids, etc, you chose some really good stuff.

Sadly rhodiola was not good for me. Made me feel bad, worse than I started.

Vitex has been on my watch list. I have some but haven't tried it.

Hydergine and Forskolin are touted strongly by the author of "Amalgam Illness", who by the way is a scientist who really knows his stuff. I mean, if someone is mercury toxic, they have serious issues involving the brain, glands, immune system, intestinal function, and energy. Much of his book deals with what supplements or meds to take for specific purposes to get feeling better quickly so as to get on with life while undergoing lengthy detox. Two top supplements are Forskolin and Hydergine. I figure if these two are powerful enough to get someone mercury toxic feeling better, they must be pretty darn good.

So let me get this straight.. Hyderagine will increase dopamine but it actually lowers norepinephrine? I didn't realize that was possible...

Yes!
(I've read the package insert! I tried to find it but couldn't.)
And it says (more or less)
DA+
NE-
5HT+
as I recall.

Anyway, I've found it calming.

Bit subtle perhaps.

Doh! I need DA+ and NE-, but 5HT neutral or minus. Thankfully I have my Mirapex...

Could always add on tianeptine to diminish the amount of 5HT. I think it also increases dopamine a bit.

To anyone in this old 2007 thread interested : I soon will try Tianeptine + Hyderzine. If anyone if interested into what it does to someone with depression/anxiety + social phobia (also possible Bp2) .. let me know.
