I know there a alot of people who have been helped with this drug but I am building a stong aversion to it. I have only tried it a few days but each day i wake up groggy and uneasy from the awful, terrible nightmares I have had. I think I am more depressed than I was,, Haven't thought about death as a solution in quite awhile. During the day I have felt spaced out and kind of buzzed, (not a fun buzz, lol. I think slower and almost pulled my car out in front of someone since I react like I am high. I cannot take this if I have to work and wasting days being spaced out bothers me.. I took it the other night and slept for 23 hours,(yep all nightmares for all those hours!) I have been kind of light headed and overall feeling bad. Do I give up or try to get through this to the spot where it works, and also makes me fat?? I don't even know if I can work through it since I have to stop it when i have to go to work. maybe overall a bad drug for me??? I hate to turn it down so quickly when nothing works but I really don't like this one.. Any advice?? thx awwww where is spellcheck??

How much are you taking? When I first started taking Remeron, I was on 15mg, and it knocked me out like a sledgehammer. As the dosage increased, the sleepiness went away. I am on 60mg now and it doesn't make me sleepy at all. My p-doc said that this is normal with Remeron--the less you take, the more sedating the drug is.
Good luck to you!

I only started with 15.. How quickly can I go up to a higher dose?? This is hard for me to tolerate. I don't have alot of time to be sedated. I took it when i was off work a couple days but couldn't take it yesterday and have it effect me at work

Hey Star008...dont be discouraged...a lot of people im sure do not tolerate remeron well..its made me more irritable and I couldn't lift my head the whole day...I had no energy...stopped it soon after. You say "nothing works"...may I ask your condition and what you have tried?
Of course if you do chose to switch to something else after talking with ur doc dont be upset... we never know how something will act until you actually try it! So if you never try something you will always wonder what If.
Remeron is the most potent antihistamine on the world market. It will cause extreme drowsiness and it will most likely cause weight gain. For some people with insomnia the sleep is a benefit..but I found it wasn't good quality sleep. Its also supposed to "act" on serotonin, so there may be some benefits. Personally I would only want to use it as an additive.

Ah yes thats a good point BGB..perhaps ask about increasing to a dose that has less antihistamine property before giving up on it.

Hi Star008,
I also found low doses to be ridiculously sedating. You should be able to go up to 30 within a week, and then 60 within another week. 60 was not at all sedating for me, but it didn't help my depression, and caused me to eat everything in the house. Other people who have been helped by nothing have found Remeron to be a miracle, so stick with it as long as you can.

I beleive that I titrated from 15mg to 60mg in about a week--that's about two days on each dosage. I didn't notice any side effects other than the sedation.
I noticed a pronounced difference once I hit 45mg (much less sedating), but I normally have to take very high doses of everything. A "normal" person (ha!) would probably benefit from a lower dose.

Lots of combos too..Some work for awhile but they always poop out. some don't work at all..I am on cymbalta, provigil, and now the remeron right now but I just don't think i can go through the adjustment period.. And I really don't need to gain more weight. thx for your help

I usually take high doses too.. high tolerance. I can try a while longer but i just can't take it when i have to work so that will screw things up.. I work 12 hour nites can't be all spaced out on my job..Yeah,, will have to talk to the doc.. i hate that..lol..maybe if I just bumped it up without titrating?? would that be dumb?? Not the first time I managed my own meds..lol

I can try and give it some more time.. It is hard for me cuz I have to work and being spaced won't cut it there. I couldn't take it last nite since I had to work. So far it has made me more depressed and the nightmares are unbelievable. They bother me for a couple of hours after I wake up..They are THAT bad. thx for your help

Remeron did not make me sleepy at l5mg . I know I'm a freak when it comes to meds. So far low dose luvox is the only ad I can tolerate and it doesn't help depression I think the valium is also turning on me as I feel horrible all the time.Phillipa

Valium will turn on you phillipa.. it's a depressant. Gives you a break for awhile then backfires.. Sorry you are feeling terrible. I truly wish I didn't have to take any meds anymore. I am soooo tired of going through med troubles and having them backfire or not work at all... or making me feel like h..ll

It is a known strategy for some doctors to start patients out immediately at 45mg remeron with no titration at all. This is to avoid the heavy sedation. The noradrenergic effect is stronger at that dose and overcomes the antihistimine effect.
At various sites where people rate their medications there are indeed people who found remeron to be a miracle when just about everything else was not tolerable or didn't work. I believe all of those people were at doses of 60mg to 90mg.
I know what you mean though. I was heavily sedated at 7.5mg, and at 15mg, almost like I smoked some 24 hour lethargic heavy duty cannabis. I was so stunned by it I just did not have it within in me to try a higher dose, even though I knew that probably would have been the right thing to do. I have heard a few comments that even at higher doses people were still sedated. So it's hard to tell without actually trying. Maybe what you could do is wait for your time off from work, the weekend, or whatever, when you have at least a day or maybe two, and then just go for it. Do 45mg or 60mg.

What dose were you prescribed? Try going right to 30-45mg. The sleepiness will disappear in 24 hours. Get ready for some serious carb-craving though... Stick with it, and good luck. Remeron can be some really powerful stuff for many people.

>I concur - once I went up to the 30mg dosage the excessive tiredness went away and eventually my appetite returned to normal. Of course, there's the weight I gained while I was starting up that's an issue, but it IS coming off, albeit very slowly. I am grateful for this medication; Remeron stopped my depression in its tracks while still allowing me to feel some depth of emotion. None of the flattening effect that I felt while on Cymbalta and before that, Effexor. Both of these had pretty bad side effects for me (insomnia, night sweats, constipation) and they pooped out to boot!! At least with Remeron I'm feeling kind of NORMAL for a change. Feelings the highs and the lows of each day, which is a gift in itself.
Good luck, Star008, and maybe try the higher dosage to see how it feels. It took me a few weeks to adjust but it was worth the rough ride for the way I'm feeling now.

Can you give us some follow up? How are you doing? What dose are you at?
