Posted by missy1 on July 21, 2001, at 11:13:55

I just stoped taking effexor xr 150 a day. Its been 4 days now and I feel like I am in a fog. I am very grouchy and I can't sleep. I keep having nightmares if I do. I have lots of kids and wonder when all this is going to stop. Can anyone help. thanks missy

I found Effexor difficult to taper off of. My best advice is to do it slowly. As slowly as your body needs in order to minimize the withdrawal symptoms. At the end I was taking than 10 mg (I got good at performing sugery on the tablets. :) I think it took me about a month to fully taper off of it, but it's probably a little different for everyone.

Noooo! You need to wean off of the medication, just as you were eased onto it. Please do this under a doctor's supervision!

I had my psych drugs yanked in an instant recently due to liver problems. I was on 450mg effexor xr, 900 mg trileptal, and 100 mg zoloft and all were pulled in an instant. The side effects were horrendous-vertigo that made me feel like my head was floating all over the room and hitting the ceiling and walls. I also had terrible nightmares. I have been off all of these for 2 weeks now and almost feel human again! The pain has been worth it and I am so happy to be off of these drugs, especially effexor xr! Good luck to anyone battling this!

I have had to go off Effexor XR a couple of times and each time is worse than the last. I get headaches, stomache problems and feel just out of it. I get really anxious and bad tempered. The only thing that makes it better is to go back on again. I have been told you MUST wean yourself off very gradually/slowly to avoid these symptoms.
