I remember reading somewhere that Lamictal either has some kind of influence or is influenced by hormones - I don't remember. Does anyone know?
It does seem to increase my acne.
And I was just reading on another posting board that for many women it made their pms worse. That freakin scares me. I am thinking of increasing my dose from 12.5 to 25 but maybe I have to wait to see if this is hormone related - but I don't want to wait, I'm miserable)

It is not uncommon for woman with mood disorders who are on mood stabilizers and AD's to still experience some form of PMS. I take Lamictal and believe me it is alot worse without it. I have no acne and my dose is much higher than yours. Go to www.remedyfind.com for info and see how others rate this drug. You are not giving it a fair trial by considering to bail out so early.Polarbear

Thank you Phillipa, you are really such a good person. I am just balling and hanging on by hoping it is a temporary hormone thing. I was doing a little better for a couple of weeks, so I am in this dilemma of waiting it out or taking the chance of increasing my dosage. I just went to crazymeds (thanks for the reminder). This is what it says, although I can't find anything that explains how/what/why:
"Where other anticonvulsants can mess with your girly hormones, your girly hormones are more likely to mess with Lamictal (lamotrigine). This means that Lamictal's efficacy can vary throughout the month. Isn't that fun? So, no, it's not your imagination if it seemed to work better last week."

Thanks Polarbear. That is good to know that your pms is not as bad while on Lamictal. How long until you reached a steady state (of course except for the pms)?
I've been on 12.5 for 4 weeks. I have been really down for over 4 days now - while on my period. I'm just hoping I will improve when my period is over.
(this is my 3rd trial, but I'm hoping I moved up on my dosage to fast on the 1st trial, and the 2nd trial the bad results were really from the seroquel).

The only thing I've noticed regarding my hormones and Lamictal is that when I start a new BC pill pack, I can NOT sleep to save my life. It goes on like that for about 4 days. Then it gets straightened out. From what I've read, hormones have an effect on Lamictal, Lamictal does not effect hormones.
