So the pdoc suggested adding Cymbalta and weaning me off of the Zoloft. My depression isn't too bad, but the energy and focus isn't there and hasn't been for a long time. The thing is that Cymbalta sounds like Effexor which I was on a few years ago. The Effexor kept my depression in check, but didn't add the energy component. Going off of it was awful and I'm already worrying about going off of Cymbalta even though I've only been using it for a few days.
Anybody have success with Cymbalta vs. Effexor? How about going off of it? Was it as bad as Effexor?

Mark had no problem going off cymbabalta at 60mg. To 30mg and then off but that's just me. So what happened to nardil and the urinary retention. You can babblemail me. I really care and would base med choices on your experience. Love Phillipa

I've taken both. Of the two, Cymbalta was definitely friendlier for me -- and there was virtually no discontinuation syndrome. (ahem) I tapered from 60 to 40 to 20, then stopped -- no problem.
Energy? Hm... I can't really remember, but I was also taking other drugs which interfered with energy. Mostly anxiolytics, which increased my depression and sapped my will to move. Effexor, as I recall, left me feeling half awake all the time, so it was definitely bettr than that.
This is only my opinion, and based solely on my own experience, but I think it's worth a try. I didn't want to try it, because of its similarity to Effexor, but was very glad i did.
Good luck, whatever you decide.
