Years ago when I tried Seroquel it was only 25mg and I slept pretty hard.
My doc nows says that I may need to take 50 - 100mg of it. He says that at the lower doses it hits the sleep receptors more heavily.
Is this true?
It seems like if I took 50 or 100mg I might not wake up until next Wednesday!

When I was taking Seroquel and nothing else, it seemed like the lower the dose, the more powerful.
Bottom line: You are just going to have to experiment.

Years ago I was only on seroquel, very very low dose. Then I went on lexapro, and I could toerate 200-300mg when insomnia hit hard.

It might take you a week or so to settle in but I get just the right amount of sleep now and I take 50mg at night. You could start at 25mg...try it on a weekend so you have some flexibility as to when you have to get up. You'll know in a day or two if it's going to work for you.

When I was taking it, my pdoc said that at the lower end of the dose range, it really only hit the histimine receptors, thus causing drowsiness. At higher doses, it starts affecting the Big 3 catecholamine receptors, so raising the dose would not necessarily increase drowsiness. Dose range for anti-psychotic effects of Seroquel are about 300mg and up, so 50mg is still a pretty low dose.
Hope that helps. Good luck with it.

i personally found 100mgs PM dose intolerable; the sedation was just as bad as 25mgs, and the sleep was accompanied by muscle twitches and terrible dreams. Some people love the stuff, though, so I guess you'll need to see.

What do you mean by you will know in a day or two if it works? I just started 25-mg at night and still woke up but was able to get back to sleep. I could be messed up due to not doing well on a start up of ssri and benzo (started having panic attacks that I haven't had in 15 years) so I am hoping after a few days of that out of my system it will keep me asleep better.
I did take 12.5 this morning and was in a dream like state for about 4 hours. Not sleeping sound but not awake either. I really hope this stuff works. It is giving me stomach aches too.
Tonight I will take 25-mgs and hope I rest well.

Did anyone feel spacey when they started this med? Does the sleep you get improve after you start this med? I mean, since it lowers panic did it take a while to see it's full effects?

I felt drunk when I woke up after taking 50mg twice at night. I was in a controlled enviornment and they redosed me. The Charge bought me coffee from off the floor in the hospital. I nearly fainted when got out of bed. So I could even drink coffee which I don't on the seroquel. And my skin dried up and peeled off a week after taking it. They dc'd it after that one night. I started Seroquel at 25 mg and worked up to 300 mg of it. It knocked me out at all dosages. And I got extreme anxiety. My PDOC wrote the pharmacuetical company to see if anxiety was a known factor (as you know it's supposed to reduce it not make it worse) and they said they had indeed had reports that it has caused anxiety at dosages of 600 mg or more. I am extremely sensitive to meds so my reaction made sense. I have since stopped it. Did not like it!

I started out at 50mg and slept great ever since. I tried a lot of other meds and still woke up at 4am...sometimes I could go back to sleep and sometimes not depending on the med but I've been able to sleep straight through with Seroquel

Thank you as you just support what my pdoc did today. I am not sleeping very well but the anxiety is much lower so she wants me to go from 25 to 50 and see if I don't wake up at 4 am. If this works and the sedation is not terrible I may get some rest. It would feel so great to get 7 or 8 hours of rest and actually rejoing the human race. I took 25 last night and about 3 pm today I had a not so pleasant panic that lasted for about an hour. I was spacey until about 6 pm.
This is the end of the thread.
