Can anyone share their experience with this medication in the begining. I've just started taking it today for the first time at 100mg for seven days then 200mg. I just wanted to know what I could possibly expect.

Rina, just started myself although I'm a few days ahead of you. I was supposed to take only 50 mg but I have 200 mg sample pills and was unable to split in 4 ways, so I started with 100 mg.
I'm also on Emsam 9 mg. Together I've gotten very dizzy and highheaded, so I may cut back if I can get a pill splitter or find a way to split if 4 ways.
I'm not sure it is helping me though. I'm loosing all hope for a combination that works. My life has been too messed up for too long. I don't ever remember feeling good anymore. Maybe this is how I'm supposed to feel and I should let well enough alone and settle for feeling like sh*t all the time.
Trying to figure out depression is not an easy thing to do. My pdoc couldn't do it so I thought I could do better.

Provigal is an excellent drug. My brother has narcolepsy and has taken provigal for over a year..he loves it, says it has changed his life for the better.
Most people explain provigal to be much like caffeine except without the jitters and nervousness. Good luck.:)

I've heard most people like it too without the jitters. Can anyone explain how something can give you energy and no jitters? Love Phillipa

Hmmm, wouldn't say adrafinil/modafinil give you energy as such - they just keep you awake, not always particularly alert, productive wakefulness either if the truth be told. I spent my last trial of adrafinil staring at the computer screen with a catatonic stare for most of two solid days, not thinking anything, but I *was* awake all throughout the experience nevertheless.

It was good for me, for some time. I slept better on it than I have slept on any other medication I've ever taken -- and better than on no medication, truth be told. It didn't keep me awake all day, but I didn't mind having an afternoon nap.
I did get headaches at first, but those were weird -- they didn't hurt, it just felt a lot like having a too-tight swimming cap on my head, if that makes sense. And the headaches went away, anyway. (The first day, though, I was sick from the headache, but I was also doing something with chemicals that might have caused that.)
It was great at brightening my mood, though, and I loved it. In the end, after a couple of years, it did start to turn on me. I started getting more depressed, and stopping it seemed to help. That was after several years, though, and it was more than worth it while it still helped.
Good luck with it.

I'd agree. It gives me no energy whatsoever. It just seems to keep me from falling asleep. I'm going to try to see if my pdoc will up my doseage since I'm getting habituated. He may send me back to the sleep neurologist.
The only mood improvement I see is that I don't get as angry with myself for sleeping as much.
I get a flushed feeling in my face sometimes, that makes me wonder if it has any effect on blood pressure.

> StargazerI can totally relate to what your saying, although I must say that lately since I've been on a new med cocktail of topamax, lyrica and now provigil, I'm feeling better than I've felt in years for the first time, so hang in there. I've been on more meds than I think they can prescribe in a day.

Provigil is making me MORE lightheaded and dizzy than just Emsam alone. I'm not having any positive results from it. I thought it might help with focus, lack of motivation and interest in life. It's not, it is causing me difficulty driving too. Every time I look down and then up, I go into a spin.
May try one more day and then will have to stop. Maybe it's time for Nardil.
The more I read here the more I'm unsure what will help me. There is no way to figure this all out except by spending weeks, months and years of drug trials.
It is so archaic that medicine has no idea how to treat depression successfully for so many of us. It has no road map, just lots of maps which all lead in different directions. Lately my map is a circle leading back to point zero.

> SGStargazer, you know what helped with the depression and the focus together was the provigil as well as the hight dose of lyrica of 600mg. the lyrica was the most effective with the depression. Thanks to Monte.

Rina, I appreciate your feedback but I'm not sure how you can recommend a medication for me based on your reaction. I'm happy that you found something that has worked for you.
What is your diagnosis? I have never heard of Lyrica but googled it and see it is a mood stabalizer. My concern is that with every sugggestion from someone else, in terms of what works for them, it is such a crap shoot to make the leap to what may work for me.
I know sometimes we just have to go on a gut feeling, but mood stabalizers have never done a thing for me.
what meds had worked for you before and why did Monte suggest this to you, your history or diagnosis?

> StargazerHi Stargazer,
I think there was a bit of a misinterpretation in my response. I was stating that my expererience with the provigil was a successful one as well as an increase of the lyrica from 25mg to 600mg which helped with my depression. I suffer from Bipolar 2/rapid cycling/depression/ADD
Best wishes

I am awake but zoned, flat. The first few times I took it was not bad. Elevated my mood a tad and ai felt very relaxed and calm.I had high hopes for this med but it's not for me.
I get similar effects from Wellbutrin and Dexedrine except these two also provide some benefits as long as I keep the dosage real low. What do these meds have in common that would affect me so? Ritalin also gives me a terribly flat feeling. I could just sit and stare at the wall. It was amazing at first, though.
What is this-anyone know?
Peace,
Kaye
