Ive been on 2mg of klono for 3 years. Im a junky, I dont notice any effects unless I do not take a dose. But now with a new script of xanax, I pop one of those before going to lunch, or shopping....and I think I felt a benzo effect for the first time in about a year or so. Anyone taper off klono with xanax or another benzo like it? I'd really like to quit klono, I dont even feel it. I didnt take my dose yesterday and I was ok...

My new pdoc is thinking if all goes as planned to substitute valium with long acting xanax. As he thinks I have a primary diagnosis of anxiety and wants me to stop my ad so he can see me baseline. I personally don't like klonopin as it depresses me. Love Phillipa ps never had a problem switch ing benzos but do you want off comletely and why?

Generally tapering is done by substituting a longer acting benzo for a shorter one. Xanax's half-life is shorter than Klonopin, so this would go against this strategy. Something longer acting like valium might be the way to go. Perhaps run this by your doc. Good luck either way. Peace...Saturn.

I never really felt Klonopin after about 1 month--I just noticed a reduction in anxiety while taking it. I think b/c of its gradual onset and long-half life, it doesn't have the same "here it comes" feeling that xanax gives (or even ativan). So...just b/c you don't feel it doesn't mean your a junky. You are probably dependent on it, though, so keep that in mind if you try to switch it up or taper.
I wouldn't try a klonopin----xanax switch or taper. Tapering off Klonopin or xanax is hard enough, since they're both so high-potency. Switching between the two, especially from k--x sounds like trouble. I think a k---valium switch, then a taper off valium (if you want) might be better.

I tapered off clonazepam with xanax. This may be contrary to popular wisdom, but it worked fine. It allowed me a lot of flexibility in controlling symptoms. I ended up liking xanax enough that I've stayed with it and take it as needed.

I want to quit klono because like you, it does depress me, and Like i said i cant feel anything. Im afraid of not having a benzo around though, because its like a spare tire. Good luck if you go baseline...tough.

Good, someone who has sucessfully switched! I think that makes your wisdom just fine!
Thanks for all the responses. Even the in 'depth' ones made sense. =)
