I have quite bad OCD and nothing has worked well except for Clomipramine (and my OCD is still bad even though Im on a high dose). I havent heard of any new OCD drugs and I hope someone posts with the name of these drugs if they exist but from what my psychaitrists tell me, Clomipramine works the best.

>I have runinations, and obessions, which seem to be a cousin to full blown ocd, kava kava when it was around abundantly was the only thing that worked for that.
EXAMPLE: I wanted to go to the mall, next thing i notice is im on my way to the mall, there is the though, then action, none of the mess between,u think,u want,u do,kava was great at finding urself in the middle of just DOING or going somewhere without stopping for any unlogical forethough.

Officially luvox and anafranil are the only two I know of. They say all the SSRI's are not approved thought too. Love Phillipa

actually amphetamine does take away my OCD to an extent (though to another extent is the antagonist of it). For example, (to just put out, I take 5 mgs Lexapro, 4 mgs of Gabitril) I wake up with a nauseating feeling or just feeling un-hooked as not into things.... my OCD is a bit grouchy, I take my morning dose of Adderall and wallah! its gone.

I'm not sure there is a "latest" one really. Actually some of the older ones are quite effective, such as Luvox. If that doesn't do it for you, as noted, there is Anafranil, which is an SRI, and a TCA (tricyclic), and has the side effects that all tricyclics have.
Really any SSRI has a potential of alleviating OCD problems, but behavioural therapy has to go hand in hand with it to be the most effective.

Ultram (tramadol)...its like effexor plus an odd opiate all in one. I think it should be used more--probably before the amphetamines.

Well thanks guys! I had heard there was a brand new one on the market, but i'm not sure if that's just hearsay or what. Anyway, I do appreciate it, and thanks for sharing what works for you.
My OCD is actually pretty harmless and nondisruptive to my life, so I should probably just leave it alone for now...it would just be nice to alleviate it, though. I'm not really into taking meds at this point in my life anyway.
Thanks y'all...a bit bummed today so it was nice to come on here and see some replies. do take care. I will post if I find out anything.
Ciao!:)

> alesta :)MY pdoc took me off of Luvox, an approved SSRI for OCD becase of side effects, and instead put me on 40 mgs of lexapro a day. Recommended dosage of Lexapro is 20 mgs a day, but as my pdoc explained, studies in Europe have found high doses of Lexapro to be helpful with OCD.
It has definitely helped me with my obsessional thinking, and the compulsions have diminished as well.
I still have my moments where EVERYTHING MUST BE IN IT'S PLACE, or ELSE, but for the most part, it is under control.
This is the end of the thread.
